So I have a pretty large volume deep fryer I've never used before but wanted to know what are really good items for deep-frying. I know there's a lot haha.

Some that I know I'll be doing already are:

Perogies
Home-made apple fritters,
Battered bananas
Wonton skins
Fries, onion rings

Any other stuff people have tried and really liked?

Thanks all.

Damn, you guys are making me hungry.

Added to list due to drool factor:

Churros
Wontons (not just skin)
Chicken Wings (DUH!)
Strips of pork
Mini donuts (kinda like fritters I guess)
Steamed buns, dumplings, tofu

And other stuff like snickers bar and stuff, we'll try to experiment and see how it goes haha.. We'll test the results on here and post pictures which will either make you guys drool more or gross you out.

Keep em coming, this is gonna be a fry-fest!

How has no one suggested mcdonalds cheeseburgers yet?

Or just deep frying two burger patties with cheese in the middle and batter on the outside. amazing.

Deep-fried twinkies, mars bars, and wendys double bacon cheeseburgers are also amazing.

I know this is going to sound extremely weird, but.... pickled egg. Dip into some good batter, let it deepfry, then cut in half and sprinkle a little salt on it. I had it when I was passing through Scotland a few years back, one of those "yeesh that sounds disgusting, I gotta try it!" things, and it tastes good O_o

Pickles.

I've never tried it, but a lot of people I know LOVE these.

Battered cheesesticks
Battered zuccini

+1 for pickles. I used to cook in a restaurant and used to try this. It was quite good.

pasta, and then sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. do you know those cinnamon twist things at taco bell? they are actually just deep-fried pasta noodles! haha, isn't that absolutely insane? just know cause i used to work there when i was in high school.

This reminds me of the episode of King of the Hills where Dale, Bill, and Boomerhower just randomly deep fry stuff.

It's not a real deep-fryer unless it can flash fry a buffalo in under 20 seconds.:D

For my girlfriend's party at El's Fusion, we got the chef to make us huge scallops covered with bacon. It was GREAT. I wonder what it'd be like deep-fried. Could be hit or miss, because the flavors were great when they weren't deep fried.

Yeah I might also do mini corn dogs too. I'm trying to do stuff that won't get me full after just eating that one thing, especially since we'll be doing a lot of stuff. Calamari will be on the list too!

Really? I have to look up a recipe or something. Never even thought about that idea; sounds good though!

yeap, i just looked on the web and it says you need a rice-based noodle (didn't realize that when i worked there). taco bell uses rotini, but i guess you could use any shape. macaroni might be interesting haha.

^^totally. i used to work there, and we would just throw big scoops of twisty pasta into the deep fryer. i didn't know the specifics, but i googled it and apparently you need rice based rotini. not sure why it has to be rice based, but fuk yea, that's all it is!!!
