View Full Version : Time to choose a new car!

Soon enough the lease on my moms car will be ending, and its time to look at different cars. She currently has a 2006 BMW 325i with the sport package. Things she likes about it are the handling and composure at high speeds, and the quality and "comfortable" interior for longer and short drives.

Thinks she doesnt like is lack of power, and it looks like a mommy sedan, and now that im getting older she doesnt like how me and my dad have the fun cars in the family.

Requirements for the new car are must have a manual transmission, must be RWD or AWD, must be semi-practical (at least 4 seats) and must come under $55000 on the road.

What would you fellow beyonders suggest we look at? I am trying to convince her to look for a 1 year or less old car due to the economy and the fact you can snag some really low mileage cars people can no longer afford.

Thanks in advance!

Used S4, M3 or G37. If you bought from the states you could probably even snag an RS4.

Used M3 would probably be an E46 for those prices though, and I think thats pushing a little older than she wants. Would be a nice match for our other M though. Are there any good sites to look at for slightly used cars?

Does she like driving stick?

S4 is a great choice for a DD performance sedan, also if you can find a C55 it would definitely be worth a test drive.

She ONLY drives stick, we never ever buy or drive automatics unless its a rental car.

this.

And if an 06 3 series qualifies as a "mommy sedan", what doesn't?

RS4 definitely. You can snag one in the states and land it here for roughly $55K (maybe a bit more - but worth it!)

Dodge challenger srt8, she cant complain about power, it has 4 seats, and its a fun car. (plus it has the potential to make over 600hp)

I just priced one out, total came to $50,195
That is with a few options.

And a winter beater so she does not wreck her brand new car.

Will she rent it like the last BMW or buy on this time? My vote is for S4 anyway.

Buy this time because we cant get the awesome lease rates and payments like last time.

The m3 is a bit too hard, i'd go for the s4.

She likes my dads M but she cant afford a new M3, and a E46 is just a tad old. I think the 135i would be a good mix because its got 4 seats and a little smaller but still pretty fast, but I will have to get her to test drive some cars.

335i period.

Oh and I drove my buddies E90 325i last night. It had plenty of power IMO but man every time I drive a 3 series I want one again. Nothing drives like those cars.

^Aleks is correct. Nothing quite like a 335i at that price point.

Easy choice ... 335i, 335d or 335xi

JTC180

335d is not a choice because of a lack of manual transmission. 135i is looking like the most likely choice at this point.

BMW 335i.... or 328. 328 is better balanced thus better handling but the 335 is just a thrill ride.

RS4 from the states run over 60k, but the S4 is a decent choice. Even a A5 would be nice, which was my next suggestion.

Or better yet she could buy a Camaro SS or a NSX (there like 30k) :D

The other 20k could go to a vacation or something...

I suggested a nice minty NSX and my moms like thats too old, if im going to get a old car, its going to be a classic.

getting a well equipped 335i brand new for under 55k will be hard.
