Picked up all the old Dooms, Quakes, Heretic/hexens to play again and was super stoked!....only to find out my sound is having major problems. I can get it to work but when there are sound fx used, the whole game stutters terribly and is basically unplayable. Are there sound settings that are messing this up possibly in the setup menu or sound menus in control panels?

Haha it's not like my computer is bad, I was just playing Oblivion without issue...

Common problem for old games. Google the specific game along with "Sound issues" and there will be workarounds for 90% of them.

Ended up finding this port thing you need, I used one called jDoom. This thing is fuckin SICK! Doom in high res (up to 1650x1080 for me) and mouse + WASD movement. haha I'm hysterical, so awesome!!

for older games try turning down your sound hardware acceleration down from 'full' to 'basic', especially if you have SoundMAX or Realtek audio.

For old games I run them in DOSBox (for dos games anyways)
For some games that seem to run in windows, but dont have sound, try VDMSound.
