I caught a show on TV yesterday, it was called "EARTH 2100"

Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if the whole global warming thing didn't reverse itself and the planet start to actually cool...

Almost no one will be using gasoline in ten years - tops. Not because it will be scarce, but it will be too expensive as a method of moving people and things. There will be cheaper alternatives.

Who cares anyway.

You know plastic comes form oil right? So do fertilizer, lubricants, etc. It will be a long time before people stop beating a path to Alberta for our resources.

And don't confuse ecology with sensationalistic garbage. You are part of the ecology, and I doubt you would refer to yourself as crap.

What people don't realize is with modern day scrubbers coal is actually much cleaner and environmentally friendly than ever... while that seams like a total irony it is totally truthful. Wrong... You can't scrub out CO2 and that is the problem not the sulfur/impurities. Burning coal is quite simply very inefficient for the amount of recovered energy. You are far better burning natural gas in a turbine than to burn coal. Not to mention natural gas has a far higher energy content than coal. The same goes with gasoline it's energy content is far superior to coal. It is simple chemistry burning coal = a lot more CO2 and a lot less energy than burning a comparable amount of gasoline/natural gas.

You know, I saw the thread title, and was really hoping it was going to be a reaction to some new trashy post-apocalyptic sci-fi series or something.

I got excited, and then you dump this on us.

Well, with decreasing amounts of forestry in the world and more CO2 production = bad thing. Why? Greenhouse Effect, and they do all add up, hence all this Global Warming scare arising.
