Well, insurance companies need to die by papercuts to the eyes. Just got the bill, my premium is 10 grand. Clean record. No demerits, no claims. WHATTHEHELL.

Anyway, I have seen people post the contact info for their brokers that got them less obscene rates, but I cant find any anymore. Someone hook me up? :)

A few questions...

- What's your age?
- What car are you trying to insure?
- Is it under your name, or are you a part time driver under parents?
- PLPD only? Or Full Coverage?

Curious... hehe.

hehe yea, comprehensive for sports cars and young age hits hard. It'll get cheaper and cheaper every year though, and get super cheap by 25.

I'm with ING western union. Talk the brokers at Trilagy insurance. My broker's name is Sam Quong and I'm getting decent rates.

My only complaint is their lengthy process when you try to make a claim :thumbsdow

Try Diamond Insurance Frances is my broker she has saved me about 1500 a year off my old insurance company.
Give her a e-mail or drop her a line @ 403-278-3685.
She also saved my boss about 5k a year on her auto, and just became a member of beyond.ca under the handle "insurance" so look out for her ads and posts.

19 with an STi is probably one of the worst combos that insurance companies can price but with a clean record I find that pretty steep for premium. I would definetly shop around before paying that.

$10k a year ?

Hmmmmmm, I would *expect* to pay around $8k a year for an STi, fully insured. If you haven't taken driver training, do that, it lets you get slightly lower rates (altho I'm not sure if it really does make a difference, I'm STILL paying $4k a year PLPD).

Umm....update on that situation. Last year they told me that I needed 5 years of driving experience, so I wasnt eligible until this month. So I phoned back again and they told me that they are not insuring anyone under 25 now.....so thats out the window...

I am with trilogy and my broker is Tammy Dews. she is a great lady and I have the lowest possible premium for my situation.

As for the government scrapping the insurance overhaul, the only thing that they didnt like was the $000 cap on soft tissue injuries. It doesnt sound like they killed the entire thing. I am hopeful that it will come into effect as planned next spring.

I'm with Trilagy as well. The rate they gave me and my g/f was $1500/year cheaper than what State Farm was charging me.

19 with an STi? 10G's definetly sounds around the right figure.

When I bought my hatchback I was about to turn 21 with a clean record and RBC wanted 6G's/year from me.....and that's a Civic hatchback!! I'm with Co-Operators and I'm paying a little over $1900/ 6 months.

I read on the news they are putting a freeze on insurance rates until new legisation is passed.

Not sure if its in effect yet or for sure? I was half alseep when I heard it on the news.

So what does that actually mean? individual insurance rates cannot go up anymore? time to pick up some demerits!

Get your insurance from a small town broker, you will get a better cut... I am insured through a rural dealer and it saves me about 1000.00 a year over the same coverage from a city broker...Maxt

Yeah, I heard that on the radio this morning too. It probably meant they won't increase the rate at least ... and some guy said the Premier should roll it back to what the rate was back in 2002! But I thought rates from 2002 was still high then! :(
Go Lower.... :poosie:

You can read about the insurance premium freeze here. Apparently in Nova Scotia, they demanded insurance companies reduce rates by 20% it would be nice if they did that in Alberta! :)

:werd: The government demanded that EVERYONE'S premium be reduced by 20% within 2 months, or the insurance companies would be fined $2000 for every policy that they didnt reduce!

But yeah everyone is stuck taking it in the ass from the insurance companies.

they freezed the rates, meaning next year, you will be paying whatever you are paying today. :)

Its a step in the right direction. I am satisfied knowing that Klein is dead serious about fixing this ASAP, rather than the typical political BS where it gets dragged out for a year or two. Lets just wait and see what he does before we get upset, he may just look after us. *crosses fingers*
