For those of you who don't know what a Slap Chop is, watch this:

When I told BeserkerCatSplat that I finally gave in and ordered a Slap Chop, he demanded that I write a review on it. Given that there are tons of Slap Chop reviews (http://www.lmgtfy.com/?q=slap+chop+review) on the Internet already, it would be pretty redunant for me to do yet another one.

What I noticed about the reviews, however, is that they're all text-based. Sure, there are video reviews on YouTube, but none of them show the Slap Chop close up, and they just focus on its performance rather than the actual build. Thus, I figured I would take a bunch of close-up photos for you to see the product in detail - both inside and outside.

Click on the photos for a high-res version

Your standard product shot:

Close-up of the cap. The cap is twisted off to open the Slap Chop:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/zerom3/slapchop/slapchop_02_small.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/zerom3/slapchop/slapchop_02.jpg)

Another generic shot:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/zerom3/slapchop/slapchop_03_small.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/zerom3/slapchop/slapchop_03.jpg)

View from the bottom:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/zerom3/slapchop/slapchop_04_small.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/zerom3/slapchop/slapchop_04.jpg)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/zerom3/slapchop/slapchop_05_small.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/zerom3/slapchop/slapchop_05.jpg)

With the plastic protector removed:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/zerom3/slapchop/slapchop_06_small.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/zerom3/slapchop/slapchop_06.jpg)

The Slap Chop opened:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/zerom3/slapchop/slapchop_07_small.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/zerom3/slapchop/slapchop_07.jpg)

Close-up of the blade. The end is fairly sharp, much to my surprise:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/zerom3/slapchop/slapchop_08_small.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/zerom3/slapchop/slapchop_08.jpg)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/zerom3/slapchop/slapchop_09_small.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/zerom3/slapchop/slapchop_09.jpg)

Product description on the box. The thing is made in China, unsurprisingly:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/zerom3/slapchop/slapchop_10_small.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/zerom3/slapchop/slapchop_10.jpg)

So I will be using the Slap Chop mainly for making my sandwich spread, which includes sliced celery. It's pretty time-consuming to be slicing really thin pieces, so I wanted to see whether dicing it with the Slap Chop would work just as well. I did three tests, each one with an increasing number of slaps. I used one piece of celery for each one:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/zerom3/slapchop/slapchop_11_small.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/zerom3/slapchop/slapchop_11.jpg)

Here's what the celery looks like with 6 slaps:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/zerom3/slapchop/slapchop_12_small.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/zerom3/slapchop/slapchop_12.jpg)

12 slaps:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/zerom3/slapchop/slapchop_13_small.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/zerom3/slapchop/slapchop_13.jpg)

and 18 slaps:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/zerom3/slapchop/slapchop_14_small.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/zerom3/slapchop/slapchop_14.jpg)

Personally, I found 18 slaps to be the right amount for the size of the celery bits I wanted. I had to slap the Slap Chop quite hard so it cuts properly. Good for venting out anger, I guess.

As expected, bits of celery got stuck in the blade and around the plastic lid:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/zerom3/slapchop/slapchop_15_small.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/zerom3/slapchop/slapchop_15.jpg)

I decided to do a fourth test with two sticks of celery instead of one, and rapidly chop it with the Slap Chop, just to see what kind of result I would get. I think I did about 30 slaps before my palm gave in:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/zerom3/slapchop/slapchop_16_small.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/zerom3/slapchop/slapchop_16.jpg)

As you can see, the celery is almost like a puree. Perfect for making salsa.

Cleaning the Slap Chop is definitely really easy to do, as it - quoting Vince - pops open like a butterfly. Just rinse it with water and everything comes right off.

nice review. next, you should review the cock shot haha http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfYijyWMAjo

we have one of these chopper things, but it isn't actually a slap chop but instead some other brand. basically the same exact design, though. i don't use it as I find you don't really have control over the chopping. if you're like me and are really anal about the size and shape of your resulting pieces, you won't like this very much at all. it gives a really inconsistent product - there are small pieces, big pieces, etc. of all different shapes. some pieces get stuck on the sides and don't get chopped at all, which is a waste of food or time depending on if you take them out and re-chop them, or send them right to the compost. I much prefer a good knife, heavy chopping board, and (somewhat) skilled hand.

That's pretty cool, it could totally come in handy for chopping smaller items, but for bigger stuff I think I'd stick to a knife.

Also, I LOL'd at Vince's creepy, creepy visage on the box. :barf:

I know...If you look up Ron he lost all his money at one point.... my mother had all those gadgets...the slice-o-matic was so sharp my mother was afraid to use it after she shaved a layer of skin off her finger. They use to sell them at fairs and woolworth stores.

The Slap Chop? It's US$19.95 + shipping. I bought it off slapchop.com, and I think that's the only place you can buy it.

You're right - it's $40 for the standard package at Canadian Tire. Guess I'll be going there this weekend. xD

Nothing anymore.

I'm sure for shakes and stuff like that it works well, but I think the whole chopping up cheese etc for whatever doesnt work that well. It just puree's the stuff on the bottom and doesn't mix it up at all hahaha.

okay axe the magic bullet. My mixer is good enough for power drinks.

I have my mom's old vitamixer it's an awesome. I am glad I didn't buy the thing. They had them at Costco a few weeks ago, they are in the $500.00 range.

Like the shamwow, the slap-chop is an age old gimmick thrown at you by a new pitchman. surprised people haven't seen these everywhere. you can get them in stores, different name, same design.

Notice the "customers also viewed":
http://www.amazon.com/Ontel-Slap-Chop/dp/B0023SNDYC

The customer reviews there aren't so generous

Not sure about personal but his company, Ronco, went under at one point but he bought it back and revived it with the set it and forget it Showtime Rotisserie. He sold Ronco for 55 Mill a few years ago but still does pitches and inventions for them.

lol.. I just saw the long version commercial on TV and it's pretty good. I'd say it's even better than the Shamwow ones and he even put the "You following me camera guy?" in there haha.

"If we're going to make America skinnier, we're gonna do it ONE slap at a time <Vince pose>"

For those who care, it's on sale right now at cdn tire for $29.99. Beats buying online because you don't pay S&H and you can take it back if it sucks as much as I think it does.

Hahaha it sucks.
I only use it for small size shakes or puree something small. I still prefer a regular blender and knife/chopping board.

They use it to slice and dice in the commercial, but it's total garbage for that. that thing doesn't chop worth shit.
