I try to avoid protein shakes unless I'm unable to get enough protein into my system otherwise. I'll have 1, MAYBE 2, on a work out day.

Personally I can't stand the taste so I resort to chocolate milk and green tea buzz from jugo. I also eat like crazy lol

are we talking about "scoops" or "shakes"

my shakes contain 3 scoops of one kind and one scoop of another

so technically its 4 scoops, but different scoops have different levels of protein depending on brand.

3 a day. But I'll usually only mix it with water or skim milk.

Only pwo.

Used to be 2 scoops breakfast (46-50g) everyday and then breakfast pre-WO (1 scoop 25g) and PWO 2 scoops (50g).

So In reality on a workout day I'd be getting max 125g from shakes. That was still only 1/3 of my total protein intake :)

Now it's real food for 275G/day while cutting.

One thing about whey I found out late last year from reading is that is Insulogenic<sp>. Basically it causes an insulin release which is primarily what we're trying to avoid while on a low carbs/ketogenic diet.

If anyone reads TMuscle (FKA T-Nation) you'd know Coach Thibaudeau has come up with a new strategy called Aminoacidemia or something like that.

It's all based around the incredibly hyped Anaconda supplement. The theory behind the strategy is sound and I might even try after I'm done cutting.

Gone are the days of cutting and bulking, now it's Peri-Workout which means carbs consumed in and around the workout to gain mass while staying lean.

Since this is a thread about protein shake consumption that new strategy has about 10+ scoops around the workout if I remember correctly. Not straight whey though, other proteins and carbs.

Isn't protein shake consumption to be related to your weight and your overall daily protein requirements? If you exceed your protein intake (food+shake combination), are you not overdoing it or is there some advantage there?

Yes, total protein is related to your weight Ideally.

The FDA want's us consuming like 60-80g/day. That's horse shit.

1g/lb of body weight as an absolute MINIMUM for an active individual. For a lifter 1.5g/lb, and for a bodybuilder with maximal mass in mind 2g/lb of body weight.

Overdoing it is a relative term. Try consuming a lot more protein and write back and tell us what happens ;)

I've switched to putting my scoops in a glass of cold water. Stirs up easier then in milk... Of which I still drink a lot, but I find it faster to just mix and down it in water.
