This would be awesome (if it really was true)

We don't have much to go on yet, but Swedish television is reportedly claiming that Koenigsegg, makers of ultra high-performance exotic supercars, and a group of Norwegian investors have signed a letter of intent with Saab to take over the brand from General Motors. Final negotiations will reportedly take place in the coming months. Along with Saturn and Hummer, Saab was put up for sale by GM before the automaker filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Many companies and investor groups from all over the world, including China, were reportedly interested in the Swedish brand, and despite how crazy it sounds, Koenigsegg was thrown into the list of finalists late last month. What we thought was crazy has reportedly come to pass. Do you think Koenigsegg and Saab, two automotive brands that share a home country and sell completely different kinds of cars, will work well together?

This would be a great turn around for Saab. Right now under GM ownership I think there is a big issue with the brand image. On one hand Saab prides itself on being a luxury nameplate and having it's origins in Europe. But the potential buyers out there know about Saab's affiliation with GM and somewhere along the lines the whole cachet of owning an European car gets lost.

Koenigsegg has already established a great reputation for itself building exotic cars. Saab's affiliation with Koenigsegg will help boast the brand image and definintely help crank the dial up on the prestige of the Saab name. Technolgies will most likely trickle down to Saab in the long run. Koenigsegg can benefit by having a means of putting out higher volumes and gives them the opportunity to reach markets and demographics that they wouldn't have considered possible before.

I really hope this goes through.

yeah, it would be good for saab to lose the GM affiliation.

For Saab to ride on Koenigsegg's ponytails would be good for business. It will totally clean up their image and will attract more luxury buyers who would want to buy a CCX but can't afford a CCX.

Diluting an exotic brand is never good business.

Most people don't know who Koenigsigg is anyways so I'm not sure how much having them as an owner will affect sales. If anything though it might finally allow Saab to develop some cars that are on par with other luxury automakers.

Saab was an interesting auto company pre GM, once GM took a piece I lost any interest in the cars. Now if a new buyer is coming along, I would consider buying a Saab.

Investing in any portion of a large company requires a large amount of cash. Spyker nearly went broke trying to run an F1 team getting in over their heads. I had no idea Koenigsegg had this volume of sales.

True but they're not turning Saab into Koenigsegg-branded cars. It'll still be two different entities.

It's like Lexus-Toyota, Acura-Honda etc. Only backwards.

Since when does submitting a LOI constitute purchasing?

Good news..

But i bet these new Saab's will be top dollar now..

Before the Automotive crisis Saab was cheaper then its competitor rivals

Once Konisegg gets em.. I can't imagine it being any cheaper :dunno:

Or maybe Konisegg will set the bar high and start looking at taking down Audi S4s? yikes...

I can't wait for the new Saab's to come out. Hopefully, they're influenced by Koenigsegg.

CCX is pure sex.
