I'm thinking of rafting on the elbow - but I'm unsure of where to get in and out. I was at the Sandy Beaches park today and saw tonnes of people in at that time already...

Suggestions?

I asked the same thing last year:

We put in at the Glenmore res and took out just after the 4st bridge. It was about 2 hours and a nice float.

Sounds good - but where can you park? I looked on google earth and didn't see much in the way of parking.

At the resevoir.... ugh... how do I explain this.....

Ok... go to google maps and plug in glenmore res, follow the river path until you see 50th ave. If you zoom in on google maps, you will see that there is a grey parking patch. Thats it. That is the parking area. It gets super packed, so people park along 50th, but its a no parking zone... so bylaw is out there quite a bit giving tickets.

At the end, we parked at the corner of 26th ave and 1st street sw. There is an embankment on the side that a lot of people get out at, so its easy to climb up and out.

I hope that makes sense.....

Are you supposed to have life jackets to float the Elbow?

We went twice last year, down the route that I mentioned above. We always had the life jackets in the dingy, and the second time, the cops were at Stanley Park on the edge of the river making everyone show the life jackets. Everyone that was around us had them, so I cant say for sure how they go about ticketing from the sides of the river......

I'm not sure if you have to wear them or just have to have them in the raft with you at all times. I think it's the latter.
