Just wondering if Highway 40 is open yet and what the condition of the road is. Is there typically gravel and debris on the road early in the year until traffic pushes it aside?

Also has anyone taken highway 40 South to Coleman from just before Longview or is that a gravel road? On Google maps it looks like a great road to drive south to Crowsnest pass.

That covers the part of Hwy 40 between the Trans Canada and #541 to Longview.

What is Hwy 40 like from #541 south to Coleman?

I believe it is gravel. I was going to take that road last year on my bike but was told it was gravel by someone who lives out that way. It's a shame, it looks like a fun road.

Damn! Thanks for letting me know. I'm in the planning stages for my summer vacation.

Was on the section between 532 and 517 yesterday - loose gravel, some good car eating pot holes, and some massive RV traffic...

Definelty gravel.
it's known as the Forestry Trunk Road in that area.
