What is the expiry date of a BBQ propane tank before it is unusable?

Well I think it's typically 10 years after the manufacture date, and it isn't technically unusable, but it has to be checked and recertified before someone can refill it with propane.

ten years is correct. not sure where to get then recertified though. i just buy a new one every ten years.

I remember someone saying sometimes the gas station will trade you a newer filled tank for an empty expired one if you pay for the propane plus an additional $20 for recertification. Dunno if this is true or not.

yup lots of gas stations with propane have them for sale. I always buy my new ones at Costco last time I bought one it was $25.00 first fill free.

It was a couple of years ago I bought it, they were a weekly special. Not sure of the price this year, but they always do the free refill with purchase.
If I am there today I will check the price.

I was looking at the manufacture date instead of the certification date. One of my tanks says that it was manufactured in 1984 but it was certified in 2007. Not noticing the 2007 certification stamp, I was thinking I got shafted seeing as I just got it in the last two years.

There is a gas station on Edmonton trail (close to totem) they re-certify and fill for cheap. I think they have a deal on every Tuesday and Saturday for refills.

It might be called "Propane Shack" its a typical gast station though.

New tank for 55$ filled or you can fill your tank for $16.96 for 20 pounds, can be recertifed at superior propane for 55$ not filled and u can bring ur old tank to coop they can recycle it!

*** if your tank reads 99@07 or 0709E then it expires this month***
