torrents always seem to have a lot of weird names. hyphens and periods separating every word. I rename them in windows explorer for example, but it appears the original file name has been encoded into the file itself.

Any hints or suggestions?

Rename the file AFTER you remove it from the BT client.

You cant rename them while they are in the middle of downloading.

for better clarification, torrent is done. I remove it from the client. Move the folder into the directory I so choose and rename the file.

As Ive said, this method does not work as the original file name shows up under windows media player, or the xbox dashboard. It leads me to believe the file name might be tacked onto the file itself from whoever made the torrent.

go into file properties and change the name there - it may appear in a number of different fields - Title, Name, Artist, etc
