love these cars but 200k. How well does the B18C5 hold up to abuse? Any way the car is worth the $135000 he is asking?

let's think about this; 11yr old car; 200k; so what it's a type-R. I'm sure some JDM mark will pay it though, thinking 'ZOMG! TYPE R!', just like for some reason people are willing to pay upwards of 10k for a near stock 5.0 mustang fox body, because 'ZOMG! 5.0 5.0 5.0!'

worth it? probably not, but type r's do go overpriced because of their rarity
although i must say, it does look minty considering it has 200k clicks on it.

that's a decent price for an R. as with any purchase i would get a inspection to make sure everything is all good.

It's an awesome car and if in good condition in and out is well worth more than 13-14K IMO. The dc2 ITR is one of the most enjoyable, best performing, best driving performance Hondas ever made. :)

Back to the topic pay the $100 or so dollars and have a compression test and maybe a leak down test if youre interested. Check for rust that much mileage probably means it was winter driven.

i hear the b18 is a tank of an engine. I am thinking about purchasing the car and spending the money to get it back up to were it should be. only problem is you now the engine has been bagged on at some point in its life if not its whole life. wonder what a engine rebuild would run me? as well the interior defiantly needs some loving.

lol ya it is winter driven from what i can see it looks pretty clean in terms of rust. I was thinking about having it brought to my buddy's dads shop he owns a OK tire. But i don't think he does compression tests, any one no a good shop that has some knowledge of this car to have it inspected.

just looking on speedtech if it came down 2 it i could probably pick up an entire engine for under 3g. any way someone think of a good shop to have this inspected at.

There is absolutely NO WAY a Type-R with 200k is worth that price. What's wrong with any of the multiple options advertised across the country with less than half the kms for similar pricing?

unless you can get the engine for really cheap there is no way you are getting this swapped for 3K.

ITR engines still go for 4500 and up at any jdm motor importer.

edit: here is my .02 cents about the car. The seats are not stock and it has a JDM front end so it may have been partially or fully resprayed which may have been an opportunity to fix some damage or prior rust so beware of that.

$13,500 is pretty steep for that price. I was also in the market looking for an ITR but I decided to go with the S2000 route. Let us weigh the good and bad about this car:

The good:
-Looks like there is no rust
-Neat JDM front end
-JDM seats

The bad:
-Rust is inevitable especially for a car with 200K. It will develop very soon
-Suspension components on 200K not as mint
-Engine components on 200K with all the abuse for 200K
-Timing belt and water pump due very soon
-JDM front end may be hiding accident history. Though it might not show on Carfax, might show in Carproof, or if it was "under the table" repair.

Are you really willing to spend $13,500 for all of these?

A couple of months ago there was a PY 2000 ITR stock 138,000KM that sold for $12,500.

There is a stock 2000 ITR in Victoria 168,000KM for $12,000

There is a PY 2000 ITR in Vancouver with a fresh JDM engine for $15,000

There is a stock 1997 ITR in Edmonton 57,000KM for $16,000

ITR's are still on the hotlist for vehicle theft. I remember coming back from a concert with my buddy only 2 find 2 thieves in his ITR trying to steal it. What an event that was.

this is why you take steps to thief proof your car, whether it be 1 or 2 hidden fuel pump kill switches or fuel pump relay switches whatever, the thief most likely will not spend more than a minute trying to steal the car via ECU swap.

i dont care if you own a 88 civic or a 05 cavalier, there is always something you can cut off in series with a switch to immobilize your car, better than any compustar or key chip.

They can literally tow your car these days. ITR is still a hot commodity given the price and rarity of the parts.

I also don't care how much cut off switches you have, if they want your car, they will take your car.

If they want the car that badly let them take it, that is what insurance is for. I have had 2 ITRs, still being one of my favorite hondas. These can be had for a reasonable price now. Be patient and I am sure there are a couple in great condition to be had

There's a lot of hype over the ITR. There's some merit to it - it is one of the easiest to drive, best handling FWD cars I've driven.

I wouldn't pay the premium for one though. The interior is very dated - still has cable operated temperature controls. The exterior is also 15 years old now and isn't really timeless styling. Options vary, and many of them come bare bones. The lack of sound deadening doesn't make for a comfortable daily driver either. The thief factor might leave you fighting with insurance for proper market value when it gets stolen because you pay so much of a premium for the car.

I would rather buy an RSX-S. You get way more for your money.

do your due dilligence before considering the purchase, have it inspected and have them do a compression test. As stated before, you will be looking at some major maintenance items in the near future, so be prepared to have to do it. As for price, again, do some research, see what they are going for, i know a few years back you could fetch a good dollar selling these, but it is older now, and with the RSX being out for a while, that will play a factor in pricing too. Go to www.vmrcanada.com and throw in the specs and see what it gets back to you with. As for the car itself, its very fun to drive, very good handling FWD car and one a good one, the vtec hits strong. For me though, I found I grew out the car a lot sooner then I would have guessed, but all in all, they are good cars, just check to ensure its been taken care of and have a budget setup for some maintenance items.
