Silverstone
Race Date: 21 Jun 2009
Number of Laps: 60
Circuit Length: 5.141 km
Race Distance: 308.355 km
Lap Record: 1:18.739 - M Schumacher (2004)

Past Winners:

2008 Lewis Hamilton McLaren
2007 Kimi Raikkonen Ferrari
2006 Fernando Alonso Renault
2005 Juan Pablo Montoya McLaren

History :
Silverstone is owned and operated by the British Racing Drivers Club and opened for racing in 1948 using the runways and service roads of a wartime airfield. The outline is still visible, but constant development and massive investment are still needed to bring Silverstone's facilities up to Bernie Ecclestone's standards.

Revisions to the circuit, enhanced safety precautions, new pits and a redeveloped paddock complex are just part of the ongoing story.

Silverstone hosted the first-ever round of the world championship in 1950 and is one of only two circuits to host a Championship race consistently since then.

However, 2009 marks the final year that Silverstone, with the famous Copse, Becketts and Stowe corner will be on the calendar as in 2010 Donington Park takes over the hosting of the British GP.

Go Mclaren!:D

I know this is the last silverstone GP and all, hopefully Lewis can do good.

I wonder if the breakaway series will feature a race at silverstone, with Lewis and Button racing it'll draw way more attention than Donington Park GP

I'm going to give the Soft Pauer F1 Timing app a go on my iPod Touch this weekend. One good feature is that you can play it back later, so that will be very helpful if I don't feel like getting up to watch the race live.

Soft Pauer F1 Timing App announcement on Formula1.com (http://www.formula1.com/news/headlines/2009/6/9499.html)

UPDATE: I tried it for Practice 2. It works well for what I wanted to see: a graphical representation of where all the cars are on the track. It doesn't have a fast forward function, so syncing with recorded events on TV is a nuisance when you fast forward through commercials. You have to go back into the Setup menu and set it to start part way through the session after every round of commercials. I'll use it live or not at all (unless there's another power bump and I miss a TV recording while the PVR is resetting.)

Live timing is the same as the F1 Web site, so I'll stick with the bigger screen on the computer. News is just links to the F1 Web site.

Just catching up on FP 1&2... Looks like Mclaren isn't gonna be running KERS this weekend for the first time this year. Wonder if they have found some new balance in the car without it...

EDIT: BTW, can we get this stickied?:D

^^ lets hope it improves balance and therefore speed. They need it.

Should be a good race, love silverstone. Gonna be busy as hell there.

It was actually Bernie, but ya thats basically the reason. But with Donningtons latest financial trouble and lawsuit, I doubt that it'll be ready in time for next years GP.

ugh, red flag with 0:24 to go. Kovy got lucky and made it into Q2 because of it, Hamilton was on his hot lap, and ya, done.

Sucks seeing McLarens as fast as the Force Indias haha.

Vettel got an insane lap, such an amazing qualifier. As long as he doesn't get passed at the start, he should be good to go. Kid needs to learn how to pass people haha, that's probably the one thing thats keeping him away from championship form.

Wow, and he's got 9 kg more fuel than the Brawns, too! 7 kg more than Webber. Smokin'!

Well, Barrichello has the same fuel as Button, so we'll see now, won't we? Is tea with the Queen off, d'ya think?

Trini, yeah, race is at 6 AM Mountain Daylight Time.

Button has always been brutal at Silverstone, so I'm not surprised at all Rubens outquali'd him.

I'm here and watching, thankfully TSN is carrying it on channel 21 :D

Dunno why speed stopped carrying it tho o_O (I actually prefer TSN anyways, BBC commentators > SPEED commentators.)

GOOOOO JENSEN! :D

Button looking like his car is fighting him this race... possible setup problem? Or is the air temp/track temp affecting the car (it goes super fast in hot temperatures).

Lap 3: back end of the Brawn is looking very loose. o_O Noticing the tail kicking slightly on a few corners o_O

Not the smartest thing to do IMO. Only push as much as you need to, otherwise you're just risking something breaking.

As Hamilton dips the wheels on the grass under hard braking... think he's slightly frustrated? :P Then again, Button sounded actually in PAIN on that last team radio broadcast... saying the Brawn is bottoming out and bouncing on Cobbs corner... that can't be nice to his tailbone :\

Wonder if they're going to penalize Hamilton for doing donuts (it's against FIA rules for some reason). Maybe they'll give him a 5 or 10 spot penalty, so he can start 20th instead of 19th haha.

Surprised nobody breaks this rule more often. Coulthard was going to do it after his last race, but he crashed on the first lap and never got the chance.

I guess at this point, Hamilton has nothing to lose, and there'll be no F1 next year anyways.

54 points this time BLING BLING !

Red Bull is really working hard, these new updates are really ingenuitive. Looks like they are generating so much rear down force, relative to the front, that they had to redesign the front to shift the weight distribution forward.

And what was up with Button today. I herd him complaining about something during the race. Maybe he didn't get his setup right.

Chris Elyea

Red Bull dominance was due to the specific track and weather conditions. Will we get this combination again? We saw a few pursuits where the gear ratio/RPM rules meant they just couldn't drive fast enough to pass. Even Webber had to wait for Barrichello to pit to get in front of him. Saturday performance still determines Sunday's finish.

Good on Hamilton for putting on a little show at the end for the home crowd! The only thing the FIA hates more than FOTA is McLaren, so I'll bet they will penalize him.

It was fun watching the graphics on the Soft Pauer F1 Timing app on my iPod touch. The little circle marked VET just kept moving further and further ahead of all the other little circles, and it was purple most of the first 16 laps. I'm signing up for the season pass.

P.S. And I'm not going to tolerate any Nicole bashing! Mee-oww!

I disagree man.... I think if you would have scored even 30-35 points in that race you missed, you'd be breaking 300pts and be within 10-15 points of the lead... ;)

Love to see lewis choking, everybody was jumping all over him last year saying how great he was. Now he has a crap car and can't even out qualify his teammate + he had a nice spin with no one even close to him.

Choking?

Have you seen his laptimes during a race vs Kovy? The guy is driving at the absolute limit. Watch the McLaren under hard braking and turn-in, the rear wants to let go every single time. He caught it 57/58 times haha.

As for qualifying, he was on his hot lap when the track got red flagged with no time left.

Chris Elyea
06-22-2009, 08:55 PM
It's a tragic thing, that's why we love it so much. One year you're the champ, the next it's tough to score points.

Don't blame Sutil for wrecking Hamilton's flying lap. That is one brave man! The brakes gave out on the Force India and dumped him into the wall at full speed, and he's back in the T-car the next day. And for what? He doesn't even have a point this year. He's just out there like most of the other guys, driving his ass off, hoping for a miracle or at least a more competitive car next year.
