My iPhone can't connect to a PC/MAC, but it does charge via the USB wall charger. Tried multiple USB cables/ports/PC's, they all say the same thing: the USB device has malfunctioned.

I did an iPhone reset (took an hour), it still wouldn't connect. Then, it connected long enough to register the phone with iTunes again, then went back to not being able to connect. Not only that, but it erased the contacts on my SIM card in the process.

So, now I have no phone. Any ideas WTF just happened?

That sucks to hear, but if you take it to the Apple store in Market Mall and they can't get it to work, they'll give you a new one(well a refurb, like new)

Tried that.

Nothing works, no PC will recognize it. :( I had to get a new phone.

Did you try putting into DFU mode?
I remember I had a similar problem when trying to unlock the original iPhone, put it into DFU mode, finished the unlock and it started being recognized again.
