Alright i think i have figured out the problem to why everything fucked up.. the tensioner was assembled with the wrong bolt giving play to the tensioner which in turn allowed enough room for the belt to jump.. anyways i phoned toyota and they cant get the bolt for 2-3 weeks i need this before that.. anyone with a parts engine help me out haha

if you look in my picture it looks like their is a casting mark or a lip where some sort of spacer or fat so to speak bolt would sit securing the tensioner so their is no play... correct me if i am wrong because a normal bolt was just used and tons of play was in the tensioner..:dunno:

I will take a look tonight.
If I remember, there was some play in the bolts as I get the bolts started, then slip the belt on, heave the tensioner as far right as I can as I'm tightening it. Then pull the grenade pin.

Hey mike did u gap the tensioner and the pulley arm? The toyota manual says to gap 1.8mm inbetween or did U just slam the tensioner against the pulley arm as tight as she can go?

first of all, the bolts are regular bolts. there is plenty of play only until the bolts are torqued. if you are after they will loosen with vibration, then use lock washers or loctite.

and for the install, i personally did as per suggested in the factory manual, and positioned gapped a 1.9mm space between the tensioner and the pulley arm.
(the factory manual will explain / have a diagram which will show you this)

Yes, I did the gapping too.
Might need a second set of hands to hold the gapper in place while you torque the tensioner down. Think about it though, 1.9mm's is very small and not sure why it is required. Maybe if it's pressed right up against it, there's a chance that the pin will not slip along the idler pulley assembly?? Red, do you know?
