Hey guys, my mom's got a 2003 RAV4, pretty sweet ride I know. Anyhow its a automatic transmission and the tranny is dying, fast. Starting into first is just awful, and all the other shifts are extremely hesitant and once it does shift, it make a big clanking noise like something smacking together. She's taken it to the dealership, and fucking idiots there had no clue what to do about it, said they would reset ECU and that's all they could do. Aside from being pissed that licenced Toyota mechanics couldn't do shit about it after $600, anybody have somewhere I could take it for a second opinion? Any reputable shops that specialize in Toyotas? Any info would be great, thanks a lot.

this is apparently a world wide problem with 2nd gen auto RAV4s, just google it, seems to be the ECU causing the tranny to deteriorate prematurely, some dealerships recognized the problem and were offering free ECU replacements/reflash.

but +1 for option import, they have an obdII scanner there as well iirc if it's throwing a CEL
