What are everyones thoughts about matte black paint jobs? Specifically on an E36 coupe?

Can anyone photoshop it?

Looking to get it painted like this:

I personally LOVE matte black paint jobs, however they are hard to get done well, and quite costly I believe?

I'm not sure if I should get a matte black grill or not... I don't know about the chrome...

Maybe it would match my contours?

Getting a scratch on a flat black car would suck! nothing to buff out!

not practical for a dd, looks gorgeous on show cars though

From what I understand, some of those cars are not painted, but are "wrapped" in a 3M vinyl cover.

Once you get sick of the matte color, you can remove and have the original color back.

I'm not a fan, it looks like black primer... kinda like a ghetto civic driving around with a primered body kit.

I've been planning on doing this for years but haven't had cash. I might get it wrapped if I can find a place to do it.
Needs metallic flake though.

Not bmw but..

There's a difference between matte black and regular flat black, I think some of you guys posted flat black cars, not matte which has a bit of shine to it so it doesn't look like primer.

My buddy is going to be partnering with a guy to start wrapping cars as a side business.

He will be "wrapping" his F430 and E63 in the next week or so to see how it works out.

I still can't get over how good wrapping a car in plastic can look!

i think it would be annoying to have a flat black car that was painted. Imagine all the finger prints you would see on it if anyone were to ever touch it. I had a truck that was in black primer and it was impossible to keep looking good. Black paint is hard enough to put up with.

If you are really serious about getting it done, get it wrapped. This way if you eventually get sick of it you can just get it taken off and i think you will lose value on your car if its painted. Very few people will like it.

That's still cheaper than a paintjob.

My buddy did it himself with an experienced vinyl guy (old guy in the pic). It turned really good...I'd say it 95% perfect. I'm waiting for him to get back to me on the product he used.

Plus it will save your paint/clearcoat somewhat for resale in the future, quite tempting.

That is pretty reasonable IMO. Is it actually that price range? Does anyone have any recommended local shops I can goto for a quote?

As an update to anyone who cares, I decided to go with "Carbon Black" on my e36... might do a matte black vinyl wrap in the future, but decided not to paint the whole car that color b/c maintaining it would be a bitch.

But on the plus side, my entire car has been prepped and sanded down to the metal, and i'm also getting the trunk and door jams done :)

Will post pics soon!

according to a guy I spoke with that is getting into it, it costs a hell of a lot more than $1500 to do a car.

It's close to the cost of a paintjob.

Anyone know of a shop in town I could call for a qoute on wrapping entire car?
