From what I know of movie extras, be prepared to be on set for long hours of waiting....

Well you dont really pick your days because its all based on the movie schedule. When they need you they will call you a day or 2 before hand. I used to do it when I was in school its good money if you are an Special Skilled Extra or an Actra Member otherwise its just minimal wage i think. The hours are usually really long so be ready for 12+ hour days, when shooting indoors.

my brother was an extra and my dad went to pick him up and they werent done filming
so they asked if i wanted to be an extra...
i signed up and rode a merry-go-round for 3 hours
and got paid 18.50 an hour haha
pretty sick for being 12 years old...

Silver screen is the background agency in Calgary with any reputation. I've never heard of that agency in the ad.

My first gig in the acting world was as a Special Skills Extra on a Juliette Lewis movie. Extra work is boring, slow, bring a book or iPhone/Touch (no laptop, nowhere safe to leave it, too many people walking around). Don't fuck around/be a douche/try to shmooze or talk to crew/actors unless they talk to you. Always let your Wrangler know where you are if you leave the extras holding area. Yep it sounds like you are a herd of cattle, you kinda are.

As already mentioned, you cant pick your days or times. That being said if your agency is putting you out for stuff, specify WHEN you can work. You can't turn down jobs all the time if they dont know why cause they will stop submitting you. Also, you can't ever leave set til you are wrapped, that will piss off many people.

Anyway best of luck, pm me if you need more info.

I met with Silver Screen a couple months ago but never signed with them as they require a gay $200 "marketing fee" which essentially comes down to them creating a basic webpage about you on their website and submitting you to casting directors. Doesn't seem like too bad of a company (located pretty nicely in Eau Claire Market), I just didn't want to pay $200.

You never pay an agent to FIND you work. Tell silverscreen to fuck themselves. They only get paid when you work.

I'm gonna say definitely a scam.

Like all of those "modeling" companies for girls and young women.

SS isn't a scam, they do get people work, you just have to tell them to take their 200$ when you get paid.
