:werd: I'm a dude but interested in something like this, used to play goalie but played a season as a skater last I played ice hockey when I was 14 or so and want to be a skater again.

I was fucking fast and scored a lot of goals that year but other than speed I was an awful skater and I haven't improved since.

That and I'm way out of shape but would love to get into hockey again, would be cool to find a beginners league for adults.

Does anyone want to start a team?

Last time I skated was more than 10 years ago...

HNA has co-ed teams, there are also a bunch of divisions for all skill levels.

why not just rent ice... get a bunch of people together for a game of shinny.. summer ice is dirt cheap...

I probably should've checked HNA too. I used to be in the NCHL.

We moved to HNA, last summer and are happier. Better refs, & times. We were in the top Division, and outside of this really good Airdrie team, the disparity ensured competitive games.

CAHL also ran a beginner league last year. I'm not sure if they're doing it again this year, but it might be worth looking at:

I did the Discover Hockey thing at the beginning of this year and I enjoyed it. I was able to skate reasonably OK to start with which a friend of mine was not able to do. He signed up and wasn't really able to skate at all. He didn't have much fun and didn't participate in the last few sessions that were games. There were a few (3?) girls and now I play in the lowest beginner division and the girls are on our team, playing with the boys. It is Co-Ed but so far our team is the only one I've seen with girls. There as an all female division that probably most play on I guess. Early on we played against teams that have played before and have had our asses handed to us a few times but we're a better team now than we were a couple months ago. One of our girls got her first goal last friday to boot.

If you can stay on you feet and actually have even a bit of speed on the ice, or better, the discover hockey thing may be just what you want. you'll do most practice and drills and then have a couple games at the end.
