I 'm pretty sure a lot of you don't have the acquired taste for liver and onions, but for those who do, where have you had the best liver? I've been to a few. Mr. Schnapps, Cattle Barons, the rat and parrot, and the ship and anchor. The best so far in my opinion would be the cattle baron. I feel its the less greasiest and the most tender. All of these places are located in the deep south.

Love liver and onions! I don't know many tips for Calgary but years ago you could get a pretty decent liver and onions dinner at the Cash Casino cafeteria.

I used to hate it (mom used to put it in congee - if you don't know what it is, ask an Asian person), but recently I had a Sudanese guy fry some up for me and they were fantastic...

Live and Onions

On of my staff says that the best is at the Carriage House Inn on McLeod and 90th..... Thought I would pass that along.

I used to eat it every one or two weeks when I lived at home. The onions were the only thing that made it somewhat edible.

Haven't eaten it since. Nor will I. The innards of animals are not there to be eaten imo.

blech! i never had liver as a kid, and only ate it once as an adult. i was at the farmer's market and they were giving out samples of pot pies, and for some reason i grabbed the liver and onion pie without thinking that there was actually liver in it. well, once i bit into that nasty texture i knew something was wrong... and i had to spit it out.

for whatever reason, that texture reminds me of the texture of Planaria:

You gotta try the Indian Style Liver. It's called "Kaleji/Kalegi" (pronounced with a "J" sound, not G).

Once thing my dad eats while drinking beer that is nasty is I think its dried and cured squid, very salty and you basically toast it on an open flame for a bit and enjoy....:barf:

Cattle Barons and a few of the Greek restaurants; Parthenon on Heritage comes to mind. If not available, ask Dina, the owner if they can.

Its popular in the UK and Germany but it is definitely not restricted there...it is a popular american dish and pretty standard in diners/home style restaurants in America.

Looked up some images for this dish. And I must admit, it looks way better than it sounds. I'll definitely give this a try if I get a chance.

Caucasians eat plenty of weird organ food. Haggis, liver and onions we had that when I was growing up about once a month, we ate headcheese, steak and kidney pie, bacon wrapped chicken livers...they are awesome. Duck liver...mmm who doesn't like the sweetbreads?

My father told me they acquired a taste for this stuff during the war when meat was more expensive and was cheaper to eat some of the parts most people wouldn't. Though they ate mostly rabbit, grouse and whatever fresh water fish they could get.

I hated eating liver and onions as a kid. They are very strong tasting. As an adult I love it, I just don't force my kids to eat it.

lol! Anyone going to Buzzards for prairie oysters during their stampede festivities?

I think my favourite picture of all time of my own children is when they were about 4 sucking on a chicken foot from soup.
