AutoExpress illustrators have quickly released these two seemingly accurate renderings of what the new Toyota iQ-based Aston Martin Cygnet luxury tender will look like. We're not ashamed to say we actually kinda like it. Unfortunately Aston Martin won't offer the Cygnet to just anyone, instead, reserving the vehicles for customers already owning either a DB9, DBS or Vantage. So squash those dreams of owning an über-cheap luxury city car because it's just not going to happen. But if you're one of the lucky few, expect to see an exterior design that closely matches the illustrations below with an interior that matches the rest of the Aston Martin range, including high-buck materials and the Emotion Control Unit that plugs into the center console, replacing the traditional ignition key. Our question is whether Aston is offering this vehicle up as a gimmicky way to persuade its customers to stop buying MINI Coopers for the shop trip to the grocery store or if this is just a clever ploy to lower their corporate emissions for the new EU emissions rules. I wonder which aston martin owner would want a car like that anyways? Would a guy paying 200 000+ dollars for a car really buy what is essentially an overpriced smart car? Surprised AM would make a car like this.

Looks great for a smart car. But I could just imagine the price...

Meh. If it's using the same Toyota iQ's engine, rather have this than an overpriced version.

Toyota iQ’s 1.33-liter four-cylinder petrol engine that makes 100HP at 6,000 rpm and peak torque of 125Nm at 4,400rpm.

This is stupid. This is a horrible way for a company to maintain their status. The instant AM starts offering cars for 40k, they start diluting their brand name. They want their cars to remain exclusive, or nobody will buy an exotic if everybody else owns one.

Ferrari's are expensive for a reason, they don't make cheap cars so they can make money, or every guy and his mom will be driving a Ferrari.

i think you missed something.....

they will only offer this car to owners of their other cars, this car is designed to be a cheaper car for aston owners to use as a daily town car instead of them going to another company to buy a daily, and it seems like over in europe they are getting stricter rules on emissions (probably an average over an entire brand) and this car would bring down the average drastically

^^That's not gonna be very helpful. Sure they offer them to only their previous clients, but they can't control them putting them up for sale. I bet you the majority will buy it, than sell it for a little bit more to people without AM's.

Look at cars like the Lamborghini Reventon, only 21 ever made to select clients, so even if you're rich, you might not be able to get one. Theres one for sale the last time I looked in DuPont Registry a few months back. Some dealership bought it and is selling it, making that car available to a much wider range of people. Same with the Bugatti Per Sang.
