INteresting, the CEO says it wont be rebadged, yet a different spokes person says it will

Hopefully it will survive though, if I was looking for a sporty family(-ish) car I'd be more then happy to rock a G8.
I love the look of them, too bad the Caprice version isn't nearly as mean looking:thumbsdow

At least they are keeping it that's good news, lets hope you can buy the front later as an aftermarket kit or something along those lines

So is the GTO dead?

I loved the Monaro/GTO, and am glad they are keeping it alive through chevrolet. However the body styling seems a bit more "bleh" than i would've hoped.

I rented a G8 GT for the May long weekend. That car was pretty impressive and definitely the most compelling GM product I've ever driven. Not just powerful, but well balanced in the corners and with very livable ergonomics. Miles ahead of the last few GM sedans I've seen.
Hopefully that version lives on as a Caprice SS or something.

they`re already called a caprice over in asia, cause theres no pontiac brand there

I like the agressive ponitac looks better.

They should call it a chevy monaro here instead of the caprice - keep the pontiac styling and just change the front badge to a bowtie,.. I think of all those old ugly police cruisers with the name caprice.

Kinda like what the mexicans did with the z24 in the early 90's,.. took a sunbird gt and just put a z24 badge on it

Looks boring as a Chevrolet. They need more aggressive styling for it.

Lutz is Fritz's bitch, no Caprice afterall:

This new styling turns a slick G8 into an off-the-shelf sedan... seems like GM doesn't want to lose that juicy Police/Taxi market.

Naturally, it looks bland and boring because it's a Chevrolet. That's the one downside to GM axing Pontiac... they lose the divison that has the best styling for the entry-level/youth/sporty car crowd.

It's like GMC trucks... they are a touch nicer than the Chevrolet counterparts.

Too bad... the G8 was turning into something.

Glad to see the car will stick around. Too bad such a nice vehicle will now be designed by Chevrolet...the G8's perception will be diluted by Chevy's packaging...especially if it remains the same as in that link.

My Roommate bought a G8 GT a couple months ago, he loves it. Miles ahead of other GM products.

I might be biased though, cause taking the car for "Spirited" drives is a really good time  . To bad its automatic with the manumatic mode, 6 speed would of been real nice.

Call it whatever you will, I just want a GM sedan with a V8, RWD and some reasonable suspension without having to by a CTS-V.

As a Chevy it looks like an Optra. Much better in Pontiac/Vauxhall/Holden package.

Great car but GM really has to turn down the bland. It's one thing for Toyota to sell bland with their reputation for reliability but GM doesn't have that to fall on and needs reasons to bring people into the showrooms.

Why do the cops love ugly crates that look 20 years out of date ? Why not just drive G8's ? Surely even the police like factory 18"s and bodykits :P

The last Monaro/GTO was built in 2006.. there was an 08 concept but it was never approved for production. Styling is similar to the new Camaro.

I know if I saw this in my rearview, I'd be more inclined to pull over; not that I make a habit of running from the cops, officer.

Kind of off topic, but what Pontiac car was it that they were going to rename the Chevrolet Lumina?

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for the G8 Sport Truck (aka Chevy El Camino)

The Sport Truck/Ute looks much better in it's Holden Badging IMO.

Surprisingly enough, that Holden Maloo/Pontiac G8 Sport Truck is one GM vehicle I would almost without a doubt consider buying. It looks pretty good, and that particular layout is exactly what would fit my needs right now. All it needs is some LS action under the hood...:D

Ya boys and girls.

Well, maybe it's a first step to bring that concept back to the market. All I want is a Chevy V8, RWD & four doors. All I've got now are trucks.

Why in gods name would GM bring a G8 sport truck over? Do you really think that this would sell worth shit? The G8 didn't sell worth a damn and it sure appealed to a larger market than a car based truck would.

I would buy one. The sport truck would suit me perfectly.. I can't think of anything else that would let me have a V8, nice handling, and a lot of cargo space without being a station wagon. There is such things as niche markets. Plus now that Pontiac is dead they could bring it over as an El Camino, which would get some sales on its own just from name power.

Chevy actually announced earlier this week that they are going to be reviving the Caprice for the law enforcement market only. It looks to be a pretty kick ass car, especially when it's compared with the Crown Vic.. I know I'm psyched to see these when they hit the market. It beats the shit outta the Charger and the Impala, and has more room than the Crown Vic - and will handily out perform all of them!

Just needs the curved back glass like my '80 El Camino in the garage. Certainly would buy one and park beside the old one.
