I thought it would be weird as well, but for the positives you stated above, I gave it a try at work.

I greased up a Corelle bowl with butter, added my egg and a packet of salt and mixed it around a bit, 30 seconds on medium power, and 15 seconds on high.

It comes out perfectly fluffy with no weird taste or texture and it's now the perfect size and shape for my bagel. So far haven't found any downside to it. I think if you leave the yolk intact for the most part, it will turn out a bit weird.

If you leave the yolk intact, you will have a big mess inside your microwave

When I was 14, I worked at the Great Canadian Bagel. The breakfast sandwiches were made like that. Salt, pepper and whisk the egg. I never had any issues with it. It tastes alright as long as you dont over cook it.

Yup, gotta wisk the egg.. I use a larger coffee cup to get the right size for an egg muffin.

i always thought it tasted rubbery. but i never whisked it
