So I just got a new job and will be starting in 2 weeks. My previous job was business casual and I rarely had to wear a suit. My new job requires a suit everyday so I need to go shopping for 3-4 new suits and some more shirts/ties. I usually buy most of my business clothing from Banana Republic, but I am wondering if anyone knows if there are any sales going on anywhere right where I can pick up some suits. I would say budget is around $500-$700 per suit.

Help!

no matter where you get it, it is more important that you have it properly tailored. If a fit doesn't fit right it will look like shit no matter how much you spent.

BR suit looks nice but they don't last very long. they all tend to made by lower end material.
as Rotten said, main thing is make sure it must fit properly. you amy able to find some Hugo boss in your price range. or else shop crazy if you got chance to go any outlet in US.

good luck

Does Pinstripes literally have a time machine in the back where they go back to 1999 to get their inventory? Their clothes are hilarious.

To OP, it depends how old you are...if you're over 25 you probably won't be able to pull off Zara suits for work, their suits are more geared towards metros and gay guys who want the image of looking professional but work in the mall, whereas BR and Mexx is more geared towards people who actually have good jobs and need to look professional, the last thing you want from your new job is to look like a complete douchebag.

I reccomend holt and harry rosen, but they start at at least 900 +.

Grafton & Co. used to have some decent suits at a good pricepoint, but I think they might be out of business.

Hit Holt's when they have a sale, you can get some screaming deals. I got a Canali jacket there last year for $600.

BR is overpriced, but you can get some pretty good deals when they have sales, hard part is finding matching pieces in your size. Mexx and Zara are definitely on the low end for quality IMO.

Forman's on 12 ave/1st street sw is having a sale now. Might be able to pick up some for decent prices. I bought a Boss there for ~700.

i think Holt just have spring sale now. also, check Henry Singer(if they still exist). i bought few suit there less than $900.

also, a reminder that you need to hold the budget for the shoes as well. you don't wanna look like a pro on upper end but your feet with a robot shoes. lol

Im suprised no one said Moores. They have great suites ( I just went to a sale 3 weeks ago by one get one free). They were about $500 suites, I got them tailored within the hour, dress shirts were 50% off, ties were 30% off. I won!

Get on the Banana Republic mailing list.

There is a 30% off coupon (all regular priced items) coming for the August long weekend.

Suits from Mexx and Zara hardly look professional.

They are more for the Ed Hardy and popped-collar crowd than anything. If you want to fit in with the business crowd (who are often in their 40s through 60s) I would stick with simple classic lines. Not trendy cuts and textiles.

When it comes down to a suit, its all about fit & finsh and yes you can have both.

Ever notice how Tiptop/Jack Fraiser/Sears/The Bay and even Graftons can all carry the same "brand" such as CK, Calvin Klein etc...

Its actuality a design purchased from a fashion house and then manufactured to different specifications of quality dependant on your target market.

Grafton-Fraser Inc makes suits for the following companies:
Jack Fraser
Tip Top Tailors
Grafton & Co
The Suit Exchange
George Richards Big &Tall
Mr. Big & Tall
Timberland
Britches

Now... when it comes down to it, suits can "vary" and made to measure is ideal. However if you're like me and look pretty good in a taper'd 3button off the rack, then you don't need to look around too much.
You can feel the quality of the fabric, looking for types of stiching, such as accented pick stiching (like a race car seat).

Does the "brand" make a difference? Yes/No...
You can tell a standout Brioni or high end Armani or Canali, but usually those are incredibly formal and with a ridiculious thread count causing deep colors or sheen.

Most suits, if you fit, you fit and if the materials are what you can afford, you're fine.

I have 2 hugo boss suits, which I decided to splurge on... made to measure.
However, I have a CK and Perry Elise suits that look just as stunning, with quality of fabric and stiching to boot, which happen to cost close to 1/3 to 1/4th the price.

Cheers

P.s. Shirts are a bit of a different story.... Hugo Boss and Burberry Euro FTW
