From Yahoo website:

It's Emmy Award nomination day and as always, we're insanely frustrated by the quality programs that are snubbed, the old standbys that got chosen out of habit and the general fact that Emmy voters once again prove they're not in touch with true TV fans. But at least this year, there were more big surprises than perhaps ever before, both good and bad, starting with the nomination of "Family Guy" for best comedy series. That's incredibly huge when you consider that it's the first time an animated series made the list in 48 years -- since "The Flintstones" was nominated back in 1961. And while creator Seth MacFarlane and his team are no doubt shouting "Yabba Dabba Do!" in joy today, we can only wonder how the folks at "The Simpsons" are taking the news. That show's been hailed by both critics and audiences as a true pop-culture phenomenon for 20 years, and yet the Emmys never bestowed it with recognition in the best comedy category. D'oh! Eat their shorts, academy members.

If that isn't a slap in the face to the Simpsons, I don't know what is.

Family Guy is just a random clip show for ADD generation.

I fucking hate Family Guy. I don't see how people can find that show so funny. It's worse than Simpsons and Simpsons hasn't been funny in over a decade.

That's cause Futurama is funny. Well, the first 3 seasons at least. That last one kinda fizzled out. And I'm not knocking Simpsons. Just anything after season 8.

I'm surprised that Family Guy got an Emmy nomination before The Simpsons.

The Simpsons had some classic episodes which will trump any season of Family Guy.

In case the show wins, which manatee gets to keep the trophy?

Family Guy has its moments, but both the Simpsons & South Park are wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better.

wow- nice to see people who finally have some taste regarding that show:D

I watched a couple episodes when it started, quit, and wasn't surprised to hear it was cancelled a few weeks after that. Then there was a big uproar, it came back, and suddenly people liked it?:nut:

The episode where Simpsons showed Peter's face (Family Guy) as "Plagarism", I did find that funny BUT...

If we were to compare Peter and Homer, Peter has a funnier personality IMO. I find that Simpsons has an enjoyable cast overall, from the Simpsons family to others like Comic Book Guy, Mr Burns, etc..

In Family Guy, I only find Peter and Stewie to be the main attractions. Then maybe little tid-bits like the Black weatherman guy to be funny. Other than that, the only reason why I enjoy Family Guy is because of the quick and stupid humor. In Simpsons, it has a storyline and there aren't quick jokes, etc.. but still enjoyable.

To the reply above, I pretty much only like Family Guy when it came back. The animation was MUCH better and the material was funnier. I hate the old Family Guy, maybe due to watching it so much or what I dunno.

Simpsons>South Park>Family Guy
aaanddd

Futurama movie>The Simpsons movie>The Family Guy movie>The South Park movie. But I think that the newer extended South Park epiodes are brilliant.
I really like Futurama but it'd hard to compare it to the above. Same with American Dad.

They all have their strengths and weaknesses.

South Park is leaps and bounds ahead of both The Simpsons and Family Guy. And this is coming from the guy who would run home everyday after school in elementary to watch The Simpsons regardless of whether it was a rerun or not.

Comparing the two is ridiculous. Family Guy has won 3 Emmy's. The Simpsons has won 24.

This doesn't speak to the quality of Family Guy, only the lack of quality among other comedy programming. As well as the expansion in the number of nominees this year.

The Simpsons was only submitted twice (in 1993 and 1994) for Best Comedy Series, but went up against shows like Seinfeld, Cheers, Home Improvement, Frasier. There were only five nominees a year.

This year, Family Guy is up against trash like Weeds, Flight of the Conchords, Entourage (yes, last season sucked and this nomination is probably only on merit).

Also, there are now seven nominees, as opposed to five.

Not like it matters, 30 Rock will win again anyway.

Outstanding Animated Program Nominations

The Simpsons - 1990 (2) WINNER, 1991 WINNER, 1995 WINNER, 1996, 1997 WINNER, 1998 WINNER, 1999, 2000 WINNER, 2001 WINNER, 2002, 2003 WINNER, 2004, 2005, 2006 WINNER, 2007, 2008 WINNER, 2009.

Family Guy - 2000, 2005, 2006

South Park - 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2005 WINNER, 2006, 2007 WINNER, 2009

What does it say that Family Guy has not even been nominated in Animated Programming since 2006?

Edit: Futurama even has more nominations and wins than Family Guy, and it's typically not referred to as top animated programming.

Futurama - 1999, 2001, 2002 WINNER, 2003, 2004

South Park > Family Guy (only by a little bit) > Simpsons

There are so many references in FG that most under 25 wouldn't get. SP seems to be more issue based, even if it's about WoW or Guitar Hero addiction, or piracy in Somalia.
