So I am thinking about purchasing a 97 prelude with 126000 km on the odometer. It should also be noted that there was an engine swap done.
So I am wondering if someone could explain the info given on car fax for me.

When I do the car fax these two bits of info come up in the details:

1.
Date:
11/14/2007

Mileage:
59,846

Source:
Alberta
Motor Vehicle Dept.

Comments:
Odometer reading reported
Odometer reported as 96,313 kilometers

2.
Date:
12/12/2007

Mileage:
185,501

Source:
Alberta
Motor Vehicle Dept.

Comments:
Odometer reading reported
Odometer reported as 298,535 kilometers

I am guessing that the odometer was rolled back? How does the odometer jump around so much in one month?
This may be a dumb question... also it may be posted in the wrong place, if so you have my apologies. Any info would be very helpful, thanks guys.

is it a US car?

I ask because when I had a USDM 350z the local regy's fucked up the conversion (miles-km's) when the person I bought it from had it registered. so then when I registered it it had a discrepancy in the mileage as well. However I had a paper trail of reciepts for service that corresponded with the correct numbers and time frames etc so I knew what the car said was correct and the CDN registry info was where the ball got dropped.

but the numbers on this one seem more out of whack that one would expect- I don't want to over generalize however some of the registry agents I have dealt with over the years were a little out to lunch so it cold be errors on their parts.

maybe the guy who swapped noted the mileage on the engine when he registered, and then the next time it was registered the actual odometer value was given- that would make a little bit of sense.

according to car fax the car was registered in 1997 in calgary alberta so i'm pretty sure that it's a canadian car...
I just don't understand how a car can jump up 200000+ km's in one month.
the first odometer record in 2007 of 96313km's makes sense if the reading now is 120000.
I just want to know where the 298000km's comes from.

Sounds like it was messed up.

They did the miles to KM conversion twice from what it looks like.. converted to 96000k and then did a multiplier on the 120~ to get roughly 190 again.

probably did that.

(96 000 miles = 160 000)

(120 000 miles = 192 000)

could have done that. if its around... well its still a lot of K to put on the car. I dont know. Just a guess.

Do a carproof report.
