View Full Version : Petro's 3.5Cents/L savings is gone!

I filled up at Petro last night and they no longer have a 3.5c/L savings for Petro Card Members! The attendant told me that they got rid of it on July 3rd. Has anyone heard anything about this?

Where's the best place to buy gas now? That was the only reason I went to Petro

The 3.5 cent discount is now built into the price. Its better for all the non-petro point card holders.

if you live in the NE close to 16th and 68th the Husky and Esso are usually the cheapest around... and somtime the Esso on 52nd in temple is pretty good too

Hrmm, this is interesting. I've been a pretty regular Petro user for a long time, but since the closest one to my house is in Crowfoot crossing, I've been using Esso more. I'll have to check this out.

If it's now built in to the price like Esso, then there's not much benefit to having a card, other than getting free goodies with the points.

(although, even with the discount, that usually only dropped the price to the same as what Esso was charging anyway)

I used to fill up at Petro all the time with one of those point cards...

didn't care about the 3.0cents off, but I was looking forward to the points as I go through alot of gas.

After taking all my receipts and realizing that they say it's merchandise, I decided to stop using them because I need to write a percentage of my gas off.

I decided to chekc out what the points could get me... Absolutely NOTHING.

As of then I decided to start using Esso (Since they take areoplan), ontop of that I could double dip by using my Amex, and converting the amex points to Aeroplan...

In 08, I spent over $14,000 on gas (after getting my yearly summary from Amex)...

14,000 in petro-points? Alot of free windshield fluid, lol.

14,000 in areoplan (and amex converted to aeroplan)? One or two round trip flights to Vegas and back!

Now I swear by Esso (AND the receipts show that it's gas an not merchandise.

The Petro where I live, used to be the same or lower than most gas places BEFORE the discount. Now that the discount's gone, I haven't noticed any 'built-in' savings; it's the same price relative to other gas stations as before, but without 3.5 cents off...

Anyway. $14,000 in gas in one year?!

Their gas is the same price as everyone else now so there is NO savings any more. Going to start using Shell again, at least I can get Air Miles. I never did like Petro-Canada in the first place but savings are savings.

Esso has an additional 1.5 cents off for a total of 5 cents off if you use their fast swipe thingmabob.

I got the Gas plus in bowness or on memorial drive. they are usually 3-4 cents a liter cheaper than anywhere else, even after the 3.5c/l discount.

I filled up for 86.4 a few days ago while shell was 92.4 then discounted to 89.9

If you buy groceries from Superstore (like me) you can get 7c/L 'superbucks' which you just use for crap from superstore.

Premium for me is about 90c/L now, after factoring that in. I go to the Country Hills one but I am assuming they would all offer that.

Use Gasbuddy - Calgarygasprice.com (http://www.calgarygasprices.com/) to find cheap gas in your area.

That explains the 'Posted price is the same as pump price sign' I saw at one of them. I always go to the one on 16th and 68th NE. Man, you used to be able to buy tires with petro points, now they offer a bunch of garbage. In 16 years I've accumulated about 140,000 points, but it costs 180,000 for a $100 gas card. Pretty lame reward for the customer loyalty.

I think you mean the "3.5c/L sign price hike" is gone.

What's going to happen to all your petro points now that the Suncor/Petro merger has been approved, with Suncor taking the lead?

The retail gasoline stations will still be called "Petro Canada".

You can get lottery tickets with your petro points. Thats what I usually do, wouldn't it be nice to win a couple million with a "free" ticket?

you can also get car washes for 6900 points; they are known to scratch some cars, though

Suncor is giving up their retail and take on PetroCan as their retail brand. It's a stronger name and better national coverage than Sunoco brand.

Ths is not true. Suncor is still keeping their Sunoco brand. If there is a Sunoco and Petro-Canada gas station near each other, then one of them will have to go. Otherwise both of them will still be here.

Plus most don't let me through with my lifted Jeep. That and ban me from the wash for leaving a river of mud behind as I went through. A+++ underbody spray btw.:D

Just a tip for 8 cents off.

get 2 bucks off 25L, that's like 8 cents a litre. coupon expires in late 2010.

Been using it w/o problems for past few weeks.
http://www.myhusky.ca/home/coupon.html?upc=06018766068

haha.. I usually refill twice everytime to use 2 coupons.

Also, with the SmartCash back credit card, you get 5% cashback on gas purchases.

That's like 13 cents off a litre total.
