I'm trying to get music off my friend's iPod. Thing is, the music she has on there now is from a mac which she doesn't have access too anymore. I'm on a PC and it tries to reformat it when I try to explore the iPod in explorer. Is there anyway around this like a program, or because they are different formats we're fucked?

I have an external HDD which I could load the music onto if I knew how to get the music from a MAC, but I'm only familiar how to get music from the iPod using a PC using this (http://www.mydigitallife.info/2006/07/16/copy-or-transfer-music-and-songs-from-ipod-to-pc-and-computer-without-itunes/) method.

If the iPod is formatted for OS X, the disk is formatted in a way that Windows can't read, so you won't be able to get it through Explorer.

Read this thread (http://macosx.com/forums/howto-faqs/287277-howto-make-windows-see-hfs-formatted-drives.html) for ways to read HFS(+) drives with Windows. Then you should be able to go in there, grab the music folder and add it to your iTunes library with all the tags preserved.

What about getting a LiveCD of Ubuntu and copying the music off of it that way?

OS-X uses the HFS+ file system, and the Ubuntu kernel does support it, just make sure it's based off of Kernel 2.6.18 or above...

Thanks for the suggestions guys! I was able to get it to work by downloading a program called MacDrive, which let me explore the iPod device and get into the iPod Controls folder where the music is located. Thanks again though, muchly appreciated beyonders :)
