Hey, so my 3 year old laptop is about to die so I figure its time to buy a new desktop. Since I'm going to Hong Kong in 2 weeks, is it cheaper to buy parts there? Or here?

Also, what motherboard, processor and video card do you guys reccomend for a computer that is going to be used for gaming and HD video editing?

I'd recomend a AMD cpu and build around that, 300 for the Phenom II 955 (the best they make right now) comapred to intel which runs around 700 for the i7 950.
I would check prices here, then while your in HK look for lower prices, if not, just buy them here.

Hmm good suggestion. Seems like prices in HK are only $10 or so cheaper anyways, so I'll just get it here.

I was thinking of just getting a Intel i7 920 with an evga GTX850. I just don't know what motherboard to get. Is the Phenom II 955 that much better than the i7 920?

Uh, no. The Phenom II 955 doesn't perform as well as a i7 920. Always do your research:

That being said, the 920 is $40 more expensive than the 955, so you get what you pay for.

I used to be an AMD fan, but I have to admit intel is ahead interm of performance the last couple of year. If you're not looking for the best then the AMD will do just fine. If you're looking for top of the line and don't mind spending more, then the i7 920 is awesome! If you're really into overclocking, get the 945 and up.

Phenom II 945 and 955 are black editions, so if you are planning to overclock they will be super easy
