Spotted in Vernon, BC, last weekend.

Guy was super nice and we chatted a bit about the car before he took off.

Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722-S Edition

ONLY 150 of these cars were produced.

A new version was introduced in 2006 called the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 Edition. The "722" refers to the victory by Stirling Moss and his co-driver Denis Jenkinson in a Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR with the starting number 722 (indicating a start time of 7:22 a.m.) at the Mille Miglia in 1955. The "722 Edition" includes an engine rated 650 PS (641 hp/478 kW)@6500rpm and 820 N·m (605 lb·ft)@4000rpm, with top speed of 337 km/h (209 mph) (just 3 km/h (2 mph) faster than the standard SLR). 19-inch light-alloy wheels were used to reduce unsprung weight, while modifications were also made to the suspension, with a stiffer damper setup and 10 mm (0.4 in) lower ride height introduced for improved handling. Larger 390 mm (15.4 in) diameter front brakes and a revised front air dam and rear diffuser were fitted.[9] Exterior changes, other than the larger 19-inch (480 mm) black light-alloy wheels, include red "722" badging, hearkening back to the original 722 racer, and slightly different taillights and headlamps. The SLR 722 can go from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.6 seconds, 200 km/h (124 mph) in 10.2 seconds and 300 km/h (186 mph) in 21.4 seconds and can reach a top speed of 337 km/h (209 mph).

Roadster 722 S (2009-) It is a limited (150 unit) version of 722 coupe. It can reach 100 km/h (62 mph) from standstill in 3.7 seconds and has top speed of 335 km/h (208 mph). The model went on sale on 2009-01-01.[11]

Not sure on the price, would guess around $1,000,000 landed in Canada, maybe more?

Anyway, the guy was totally cool, wasn`t flashy at all except for the huge diamond encrusted watch he wore.

Best part about it, his wife got in to the driver`s seat and drove away. I told her how lucky she was, and commented about being careful around the area, as I had lost my license due to speeding in a fast car before.

He joked that was the reason she was driving. :)

Amazing Find! What a gorgous car.

Perhaps not the rarest, CLK-GTR/LM are rarer - but that's just nitpicking.

MSRP is around $570,000 US.

All SLRs have been priced in USD. The price in CAD is whatever the exchange rate is the day of purchase.

Wicked car - There's one guy that comes to mind from Kelowna who typically buys these type of cars from Kelowna MB. If it's the same guy, he's also got a Maybach in the garage and has had a few SLRs previously.

Awesome car, not feeling the wheels at all though.

Its amazing how such a rare car, and there are already a few in western Canada. Perhaps they made more than the 150 originally claimed.

The wheels do suck, but they are standard on the 722 funny enough.

That's the famous "world's most expensive lemon" car haha. It's in the US. Search for CLK GTR lawsuit on google to read about it.

Dealership imported the car under the collector exemption for $1.7m and got it into the US. The car's shipped dry (no oil in engine/transmission etc), drove 'er 10 blocks and seized the motor and tranny. Shipped it to Renntech for repairs, and they said it needs new engine and transmission. Dealer tried to sue MB USA and MB USA basically told him to fuck off since it's a grey market import, no warranty via MB USA, and MB USA has nothing to do with the car.

Not sure where the lawsuit went, or how it got fixed. But that's why the car only has delivery miles haha. Renntech must've fixed it, they're the only shop in North America that has the ability to fix that thing.

I remember reading about that. Why ship it dry? For weight savings for freight or to ensure that fluids dont go bad while sitting for an undetermined amount of time?

I'm guessing that's how race cars are shipped? Not entirely sure why.

There are actually a couple of them in town.

There is a guy with a silver one that I have seen driving it around the city when there is still snow on the streets.

At the European Car Club show at Stanley Park he once parked next to the public bathrooms where random people are constantly walking by. People in the club were amazed that he would be so brave.

He clearly loves his car, but isn't some anal retentive guy who is constantly detailing it and trailering it around everywhere.

When I used to ship aircraft engines, they have to be dry.

Shipping companies will not take engines with fluids in them.

I would suspect that this was not being shipped as a car, but as an item in a crate - to help get it into the states? That's all I can think of.

Thanks for the story rage, didn't know that!

You guys are talking about the regular gullwings, around 1800 made. I'm talking 29 all aluminum ones. There isn't going to be one in calgary since there are less than 9 left in the world last I heard around 1998..

Kinda retarded that the techs drove it before checking fluids.

That's a 'regular' SLR Roadster...

Dino, Lone Star is the dealer down south by Lexus and Calgary BMW...

I saw what's been confirmed as a real 300SL a couple weeks back on Blackfoot... the driver was giving it a good run! :)

It might also be because it's less of a fire hazard, for insurance reasons. Sounds like there's a lot of good reasons to do it, you just gotta make sure the retard who receives it knows it's dry lol:dunno:

sick spotting of the 722 though

I saw a gullwing thursday, on 14st northbound just before glenmore.

It was on the side of the road, mechanical troubles maybe?

Nice to see it though, only the second time I've seen one I think.
