Anybody know the cost to startup a new corporation (inc.) not sol or partnership.

A friend of mine was saying $280 done at the registry office but from what I understand a lawyer needs to be involved..

Looking for input preferably for somebody that HAS formed their own corp.

It depends if it needs to be done both at the federal and provincial level. Take a look here:

Depending on what you are doing, it can be done easily at a registry. If you are incorporating something that is going to be rather complicated (like a public company), then use a lawyer.

The cost will vary from registry to registry because the fee is mostly up to the registry.

Do a bit of research online, get the papers from the registry and fill them in. If you are STILL confused after doing the research, most registies have a legal ease kit that you can buy. They are $30ish and will give you the answers for the forms.

Take into account the time cost of much more complicated bookkeeping.

If you have a lot of extra time you can file the paperwork on your own at a registry. They even can provide you with the forms that you need to fill out.

However if you are short of time and couldn't be bothered you can always use an online company.

I used www.corporationcentre.ca to get my incorporation done because at the time I needed it to get done ASAP.

For a couple hundred bucks (over the standard incorporation filing fees) it was worth it for me. Also for $199/year they take care of all yearly maintenance and take care of any legal changes that need to be made to the incorporation (address change, director change etc).

Since the costs of incorporation are a write off, I don't mind spending the money if it is going to save me a few hours of work.

I was told I needed a lawyer, but you don't...

Just goto a registry... This was 3 years ago for me, but I think it was below 380...

Depending on the registry they can be very helpfull in filling out the forms and it's a very simple process.

1. Fill some stuff out and pay for name search
2. Leave and come back 1 hour later after name search complete.
3. File paper work for name change (from numbered to named)...

Keep in mind it should be cheaper if you're ok with a numbered company.

If you know what you're doing go to a Registry, if not don't bother cause they can't tell you what to fill out because they aren't liable to that stuff. You can goto Elliot & Stikeman and they can get it done for you too, I think it was under $200.00

On topic, does anyone know the cost of starting a sole proprietorship and how to do so?

I got my done last year at the southland one and it was 200 bucks with a minute book. I shopped around and they were the cheapest and quickest. Nice people there too.

If you don't need a minute book, the registry in Bow Valley square does it for about $170 IIRC.

I paid 370 to Incorporate, that included having my accountant doing all the paperwork.

It cost me around $240 and my Dad (CA) did all the papers.
