I'll start things off this month...

What an amazing day of driving and riding. 350km of amazing roads, and being the long weekend, very light traffic.

while playing with DOF is indeed fun, I think this one ya went a little to far with :P might just be me, but I would have liked this more if the whole decal was at least in focus.

Ya like I said, just playing around right now. I've been shooting all my DOF pics at F4, and next round will start playing with the DOF preview and start shooting at smaller apertures to get the desired DOF for each pic.

^Those are awesome. What settings do you use to capture the water like that? I'm heading to elbow falls today I think and want to snap some pics like that. My first attempt was fail as everything got so over exposed.

Thanks, I wasn't really happy with the overall image, the technique was down, just not the visual end result.

ISO 100
TV 1 or 2 depending on how much blurred effect you want, this was very fast moving water so the effect can vary.
F11

You will need a tripod

If you are still getting too much exposure, try bumping your aperture up higher, like F22.

A couple from last nights storm. Most of them had the rain drops from the windshield as the strikes were too close :(

Thanks for the comments.

I clipped the top of a couple of them unfortunately, I was not expecting some of the explosions to be as high as they were.

Nicely done, what settings did you use to capture the fireworks?

Thanks.

Shutter set to "bulb", ISO 100, F11-F13, manual focus set to infinity, and a cable shutter release. The camera needs to be on a tripod.

It's all done to music so you can tell when the explosions are going to happen even if you can't see the fireworks being launched. Just open the shutter right before the explosion and hold it open until after lots of fireworks go off then release the button (2-4 seconds or so). It basically keeps "painting" on your sensor as more and more things happen. Repeat as desired, experiment with different shutter times, etc.

Adding a bit of contrast in PP takes away much of the smoke left by the explosions.

Have you marked your lens for the infinity setting? I find the marking on my lens is never in true focus at infinity and is always slightly off the mark.

Looks like you had a nice night for shooting, little to no wind?

I just waited for one firework to go off, focused on it, then locked the camera in manual so it wouldn't AF anymore after that. Seemed to work just fine and was pretty much at infinity. At that distance and at F11-13 its pretty easy to keep everything in focus.

I don't rememeber any wind, and the skies were pretty clear. It was a good night other than the mosquitos. I got there at 9:15 or so and got a less than ideal spot, right at the top of the far (south) hill. Thats the hill you want to be on, but not at the very top unless you want to stand with your tripod fully extended to see over the people. If you get there a bit earlier you can get a good spot on the hill.

I see.

Have you ever tried decreasing your aperture and increasing your shutter time to capture more? Or does it become too busy?

I tried some at F16 but by the time the fireworks had lost their brightness they didn't have enough time to show up nice and brignt in the picture, so I was getting a whole bunch of really dim fireworks. I found the sweet spot to be about F13 ISO100 with varying shutter times. That let me hold the shutter open long enough to capture an entire "sequence" and not badly over/under expose everything, although you do have quite a bit of exposure leeway with fireworks.

Indeed I do, shot another track day today, and received another e-mail from a different organizer lookin for me to come to their track day a little later on next month.

It's funny you say you can't get enough of them because a lot of the people that I have sold them to say the same thing...I had a guy buy 74 images a couple weeks ago. Given that I put probably less to a minute worth off post process work into each shot, I think that's a solid return for the effort I put in. And frankly I good give a shit about what you think of them.

How many 89orama's have you sold?
