well, things have changed and so has the scene. People think those are the dark days but the fact is that all the new guys who never experienced that phase will never understand.

How is jdm stickers and cabon fibre items rice? Carbon fibre actually serves a purpose in reducing weight to decrease the total cars weight giving you a better power to weight ratio.

To each their own but if someone wants to put on a jdm rising sun decal i don't consider that rice it gives a car its uniqueness but i can admit some people over do it.

Ricing a car would entail adding body parts and such that give no performance gains and is all for the looks.

To me, if i had the option of painting over carbon fiber, i would prefer that. Most people get carbon fiber shit for the looks. Hence the reason why people dont paint their hoods, trunks, center panels, etc.
IIRC, some vehicles have panels made out of cf, but even from factory they are painted. Carbon fiber trims/weaves/patterns that arent painted could be seen as rice, but like you said... to each their own.

The reason why people dont paint their hoods are for the looks, or for the "ooo look he has a carbon fiber hood....Baller!!!!"

Personally, i like rice! Plain rice!
Thats the reason why i havent really looked into buying a carbon hood/trunk. I'd want to get it painted, but at this point, i dont have any need to benefit from weight reductions. My civic will still be slower than a mini-van grocery getter!

haha, your the guy who would throw a cf hood on a stock civic and claim its for a practical weight reduction purpose.

You hit the nail on the head right there hahah I had a riced out DelSlow with 2 10" Alpine Type Rs, load ass muffler, glow inside and out, rims and a partial kit. Cruisin up to high school, house parties, in front of tequila, everyone was all OOoOoOohHhhHh AaaHhhhHhhh

I miss those days so much.

Now it seems clean, subtle and stealthy are in. Which I like as well, just not as fun as glow tubes that strobe to your bass beats

I really do miss those days. In my long history of Krylon specials and Tremclad beaters, I have always had a soft spot for rice. I don't however share that feeling for ridiculously over sized spoilers. The only thing that comes to mind when you pop a huge wing on a hatchback...

I miss it in the case you could tell who "enthusiasts" were, now everything looks stock and boring. I pull up to another wrx or sti and give a thumbs up and sometimes i get a big "WTF" look on their face whereas 6-7 years ago id see a civic or a integra with a body kit id give a thumbs up and get one back.

to each their own man.
i'm glad those days are over...
fastnfurious days are the reason people make fun of honda, and why most imports are referred to as rice by people who dont know about import performance.

clean, well represented imports are what's giving life back to the import scene...respect back to it.
from what i've seen the states and puerto rico are breeding grounds for serious import drag/drift/gymkhana enthusiasts which is what i think is the real point of motorsports.

then again being involved in motorsports and being an automotive enthusiast are two very different things, both being open to interpretation.
i'd rather be involved in motorsports... but it's not exactly a cheap hobby haha

body kitted 6th gens with GT wings and Loud fart cans started it all for me

Even back in the days of riced out rides, what made me really interested in modding cars was when I saw a SLAMMED silver 6th gen civic with no spoiler (purposely) but SO clean all around. Very subtle and deep exhaust, clean lines and all. It stood out for me because if we all saw that ride in 2009, we would say it'd be pretty sweet

Speaking of reducing weight, I had a friend in high school that took out his spare tire, trolley jack kit, and all to reduce the weight of his VW. The NEXT day, busted a tire and had nothing to change the tire. Cost him $100 + his whole day to get it towed and change it himself at home.

I'm calling the next inducte into the Ricer hall of fame of "performance" parts.

A-pillar gauges.

Trust me it'll be the next thing that we'll all look back on and say, why the hell did we need all those gauges mounted up there?

Anyone who is tuning, is doing it via laptop and EMS not looking at their wideband a/f for daily driving.

That reminds me of a few weeks ago at Canadian Tire. I'm having a smoke on the curbside of the parking lot when this kid gets out of his Subaru. He sees my car and starts laughing and lightly kicks the bumper.

The only problem I had was when I confronted him. He didn't even know what type of car it was >.<
