I know this is a common question on here but

Getting a new laptop:
Around 1000$ price range

Will be used for :
gaming (like TF2, Empire:Total war)
School work (autocad, google sketch up and such)
browsing net

Something with a good graphics card that isn't too pricey but not cheap.

My last one was a Toshiba and I liked it a lot.

Any suggestions... maybe there is something better?

Thanks all.

I'd feel more comfortable on a PC. Mac's are great, but I still prefer PC.

And the last acer I had ended up using it as a frisbee. It was a cheapy though.

Maybe some info as to why you would pick these over others?

Well I have an Asus G1S-B2, its super powerful, awesome for gaming(which I do alot) no spy ware, no problems, runs great, minimal software from asus and aesthetically pleasing as well... acer would be my 2nd choice, I love my asus laptop and they are definitely geared towards gaming which is under your criteria I'd check out memory express for options

yah that toshiba is not bad, there is an asus lil bit more $ but would definitely satisfy more needs, they upgrade easily as well

Empire takes a lot of graphical power and resources. I'd go with a laptop that has a NVIDIA GeForce GT 130M or 220M instead of the Toshiba which has a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570...

If you have a friend in the US, this would be your best bet

I don't want to have to pay brokerage and duty up the ass, as I see that newegg.ca ships using UPS from the USA.

Both look like good computers, though, I hate just wasting money on brokerage and duty when I could have put that money towards a computer bought in Canada.

I will try to find these computers from a canadian retailer if I can.

Thanks sub!

I have experience with both Mac and PC and definitely would not recommend a MacBook for his specifications.

This is actually a pretty decent system for a computer with dedicated graphics. Good brand too, and lots of places service Toshibas.

No brokerage or duty from newegg.ca. Yes it's shipped from the US using UPS but they handle all of that. If you're buying from a .ca site you're safe even if they're based in the US.

I just picked up a Dell Studio 15 with ATI HD3450 graphics card with HDMI out and a T6400 dual core processor 4 months ago for $1050 shipped.
