is this a joke? He got pretty psyched to hit a grounder up the middle, which was the most impressive part of this 3 part series. Embarassing slide and fielding of a pretty routine fly ball, even for a rec league beer leaguer.

As far as hockey goes, there's no room in Calgary's lineup for Fleury. Maybe he should ask San Jose.

Wow, nothing sacred on the internet.

He wasn't even that good to begin with, was he? I mean its not like he grew since he left the nhl. Didn't he leave because he was all coked up? Players now are bigger and faster than when he played and all his stick work would land him in the penalty box every single shift.

He has a better shot at baseball.

The 41-year-old has been sober for almost four years and has been skating daily in Calgary in the hope that an NHL team is willing to invite him to training camp.

BS. I saw him a few months ago all fucked up.

he was one of the greater players of his time actually, look at his stats, http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=1712

that being said I call BS on sober for four years and think that at his age at best he could be a grinder, and at 5 foot 6 that is not going to go very well

Sober, fat or too small. If the guy can be competitive on the third line, some team will take him. At a base salary with bonuses, might be the value play of the season.

Take two minutes and read his record, impressive in many ways... good and bad.

I hope he makes a team, would be something to watch the come back.

I would like to see a comeback, it would be entertaining for me and Calgary personally seeing how his legacy is most remembered with our city. Not necessarily having him playing for the Flames but I 'd keep tabs if he came back and was on another team. However, sounds like a lot of red tape to cut through. Reminds me of Rocky Balboa or a Disney movie actually.

wow, i can't believe not many people like fleury? Sure he got into the boozin and turned into a crack head. But i mean, there was a reason why he was the flames all time leader in points. He was a damn good player.

I'd love to seee Fleury come back sign a one year deal with the flames...20 goals 20 assists, im happy...he retires, and we Finally get 14 up in the rafters.

#14 ftw

So lets remove Gretzky's records, cause that was "back in the day" too.

Only thing that has changed is conditioning, those players from 10 years ago would be just as good now if they trained like players did now.

I say if he can pull it off, then all the power to him. I mean, yeah he's had a long history of drug and alcohol abuse and he's 41, but if he can pull it off, that'd be fucking awesome. I just hope if he does make a comeback, it won't fizzle out and end up looking like a joke.

his last NHL season was 02/03. Since then, the change in hockey has in my opinion, benefited players who played his style. If he can get his legs under him. Watch out, and its not like he's in bad physical shape either, him and his brother or cousin, had a masonary or concrete somthing or other business too. Plus apparently he was playing in some Minor league in the states.

I think its all up too bettman, whether or not he gives him clearance to play. :banghead:

I remember during the 03/04 playoff run, I was at game 3 in the Calgary - Detroit series. And Fleury was there. I swear there was resounding cheers for him when the jumbotron guy put his camera on him.

It will be interesting to see where this come back takes him, if he gets to play in the NHL again, good for him. If they won't let him or no teams will take him, atleast he can say that he tried to revive his NHL career and go out with his head held high.

Yup... I was there, too. Greatest standing ovation I've ever been a part of. He was quite humble and mellow, unlike the Theo we've seen in years past.

As far as I'm concerned, he can go fuck himself. He deserted Calgary at the height of his prime for a few extra dollars, cussing out the city and the team as he cried himself all the way to the bank.

Calgary is where Theoren Fleury started his remarkable NHL career. It may also be where he resurrects it.

In an interview with radio station The Fan 960, the 41-year-old former all-star said Friday an NHL team had invited him to training camp and he would arrive Saturday. While Fleury didn't identify the team, several media reports said it was the Calgary Flames.

"I've basically been doing everything I can to prepare myself for tomorrow," Fleury told the radio station. "I think the biggest asset I have to bring to an organization is the experience that I have. That's what they're getting when they get me tomorrow."

The Flames would not confirm Friday night if Fleury, who lives in Calgary and played 11 seasons there, was offered a tryout.

Fleury's last season was with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2002-03, when he was suspended indefinitely for violating the NHL's substance abuse policy.

Fleury says he's sober now. The Oxbow, Sask., native asked for reinstatement and it was granted by the NHL and NHL Players' Association late Thursday night.

I don't remember all the details because I was really young when this happened, but from what I remember he was traded to Colorado as a playoff rental?

Did he badmouth Calgary or the team management? I dont know why but I remember him being really choked to leave.

Either way I don't see him making the team. A undersized, slow, 41 year old for the 4th line doesn't seem too appealing to me.

CALGARY -- Calgary is where Theoren Fleury started his remarkable NHL career. It may also be where he resurrects it.

The Calgary Flames confirmed that Fleury has been invited to attend the Flames training camp, which begins Saturday, on a try-out basis.

"Once we determined that Theoren was training to our standards and the League permitted his return to on-ice competition, it wasn't a hard decision for us to provide him with this opportunity," said general manager Darryl Sutter in a statement.

"In the history of our franchise, he is among the top players all-time and regardless of what happens; he can finish as an active player. This is a day-to-day thing and we will develop our expectations over the course of training camp."

First of the big thing for Theo is that he can retire an active player and not under suspension.

As far as the Flames are concerned he will sell seats in Abbotsford which is a good thing for the new club.

Really its a win win situation, whether he is good enough to play in the big league or not. I think he is. 4'th liners only play 2-3 minutes a game and if he still has some semblence of the hand eye coordination he had when he was younger (which he should because of his recent baseball stint) he might surprise a few folks.

...
As long as he doesn't have a meltdown.

back when i watched hockey he was the shit. Late 80s, early 90s. The moves he would pull were crazy. One of them I remember was the one time where he faked out the goalie by leaning back on both skates at the same time and breaking so fast forcing the goalie to commit while he put it in the open net. The guy could have been a figure skater lol. Of course we can't forget this famous goal. I remember watching it live. Definitely me favorite player.

Was listening to the FAN this morning and Mike Richards and Pierre Mguire were talking about Theo's fitness level and Theo texted his training camp results into the Radio station.

VO2 = 60
8% body fat.

That is very - very impressive.
Only freaks of nature (ie - Lance Armstrong etc score higher than 70) and Mgquire was mentioning that at his peak with the Rangers the highest Mark Messier scored was 63.

I heard one or two for sure, but not tomorrow's. Beleive me Ken King knows what kind of revenue generator this would be but the #1 goal is to win games and they need to evaluate a boatload of prospects tomorrow.
