If you do that in a Volvo, they give you a brand new one.

I've never seen one with over 600k, thats crazy. I almost wouldn't believe it if it didn't have records.

There was a story a while back about a mid 90's chevy truck that had over a million with its original engine,it recived lots of publicity and the owner promptly placed it on e-bay with some crazy high buy it now price.

Then you drive it one more mile and sell it as brand new as it all wraps to zero haha

Volvo has some sort of deal where if you roll it over, they will give you a brand new Volvo. I heard about it when some guy in BC apparently did it.

Hmm lol.. Well I'm sure there are lots of ways people could roll it over purposely.. Wonder how this really works. Hard to find stuff about it online.

In last months Diesel power magazine the had a Dodge Ram writeup that had 1.4 Million Miles, the digital odometer went to 999,999 then started back at zero.Amazingly that truck was also on its original motor/trans (most miles were while towing!)

I looked at a civic for sale once with 830k on it.. some sort of mailman owned it, that drove across the province near everyday.

1 million miles = 1609344 km's. Fuck that is a lot of driving. I thought it was pretty awesome hitting 100,000km's...

I used to have an '84 S10 with 842k on the odometer, ran like a top. I just sold it because it was rustier then the titantic and I was embarrassed driving it.

The new owner had it up to 917k when I ran into him a few years later. :D
Man I miss that thing :(

I wonder how much this civic is selling for? Crazy that its mint with THAT many miles on it.

I wonder if it belongs to the same guy I know. There's an aircraft weighing company that travels all over the US/Canada. Last I talked to him about 2 years ago, they had a GM with 950,000 miles, a Dodge with 870,000miles, and a Chev with 690,000 miles. He said his son owns the companies old dodge and it had over a million on it.

He said they all had the original engines/transmissions, except the GM that had a new transmission installed when it only had 150k miles on it.

(These weren't that old of trucks either, newer than 2000 for sure)

So diesels and Honda engines are where it is at. I vote for a Honda turbo diesel in the next civic :D

wow! I used to own a 93 civic just like that but it ate alot of oil. I guess regular maintenance is the main key.

And at $2 per gallon and that car getting 40 mpg for highway driving, he spent $45,000 on gas for the past 12 years.

I thought there was an article in the Herald a few years back about a Saab owner that did this as well, but I can't remember if it was KM's or miles.

There's been a Mercedes 250D that did 1,025,262 miles before it was donated to Benz.

"The current high-mileage champion is Gregorios Sachinidis, a Greek taxi driver who holds the known record of more than 2.8 million miles in his 1976 Mercedes-Benz 240D. The latest Mercedes to be recognized for surpassing the 1-million-mile mark is a 1970 280SE recently acquired for the automaker's museum from its original owners in California who bought the car new and drove it for 1,019,000 miles."

2.8million miles. Holy SHIET.

Not sure on the exact numbers of how many old school MBZ's have passed the million mile mark (as not everybody reports it) but I'm sure there are a bunch of them out there.

Lol at the quote at the end of that article:

"What this means to you: Funny how the 1970 Mercedes can manage a million miles but the new ones have to be recalled within days."

Makes me want to trade my newish benz for an old one..

That is amazing though, the highest mileage vehicle I've owned was my jeep with over 280k on the 4.2L - it would not have done a million. Even when i bought my civic new in '06, nothing about it would make me think it could even scrape a million miles. Its becoming apparent that no one quite builds cars like they used to.

Good friend had a 2 door jetta. had over 600,000km and we bagged the living crap out of it. Pinned it on the highway going to Van from oliver all the time. The thing kept on going.

I had a 90/91 (can't remember now) pontiac transport se (yeah the minivan) racked up to 550k+ - funny part of that is it keeps popping up on Kijiji lately - has some hood damage (kinda looks like an inverted pontiac logo) from a run-in with a deer - and a scrape from a honda on the sliding door, still has my old K&N sticker on the hatch... Apparently now it's down to 220k :dunno: I laugh every time I see it - sent the seller a message suggesting they check carfax cuz it had an awful lot more when I bought it & ridiculously more when I sold it back in the 90s...

Why one would not report mileage to the nice people at benz is beyond me - they send you really nice packages complete with badging for mileing out their cars. Did it on my old 300 - quick stop by the dealer for verification, send a form to benz head office; get a care package with cool benz schwag a month later.

Actually - I should pick up another old benz now that I'm thinking about it... Their vintage parts were cheap like borscht (that cars head gasket was >20$), and I never once got told "no longer available". One of the few manufacturers that supports their old vehicles.

This fellow turned in his million mile SAAB in 2007 for a brand new 9-5.

Some people could care less about hitting a million K/miles. Just like how some people scrub the shit out of their paint with the brush at the car wash w/rocks and gravel all over it. It's just a form of transportation to many. On the otherhand...I'd be at the MBZ dealership at every "milestone" to collect my grille badges :D.

Old MBZ's are the sickness.....unfortunately finding a pristine example is not exactly easy. I've seen some nice ones around town, but the majority are getting quite rusted. I always keep an eye on Autotrader/MBZ forums for minty W126 diesels from the states....if I find a minty one I'd seriously consider purchasing it and keeping it forever.

David Letterman had a guest with an 82 Toyota Starlet that rolled a 1 million miles. Toyota didn't give him anything, but Letterman gave him a newer used car.

Unless they've changed it - dealers don't have the badges - but you do need their service advisor to sign the form, if I recall you had to send off to MB in Germany for them... But that was ok - cuz I remember one badge was c/w a shirt & swanky keychain... Other was a awesome baseball hat and driving gloves - both came with a REALLY swanky certificate (wasn't so much the certificate but the folder it came in).

W126 - I agree, though I do prefer the early 70s W108's - except I don't think I've ever seen one with a diesel for sale. The W108's are just Benz defined in my world; the car opitimized luxury - even when you pass one today, they still look bling.

honestly i think if this car is bought and is driven lets say 50km per day then it might break down due to it not being used to highway miles, cause the car isnt used to starting on and off with traffic

I think it's awesome when automakers reward their dedicated customers! It shows that with proper love and care, a car can outlast its master.

Can't really say that to the late '90's domestics though...

Most taxi's go 800k plus, allmost all are domestic's,sure you could likely get that kind of mileage out of a import car ,but the maintenence and repairs woul be way more.
I used to work at a dealershp that had the owner of associated taxi as a good customer,he said the big Fords go 700,000 plus easy, and any gm with the 3800 v6 he said would last 600,000 plus as well.Remember this is all city miles with lots of idle time!
