I paid between $2800 and $3000 for 5 classes each semester so that's pretty normal if you ask me.

Don't they go by class at the UofC? $587 or something per class? So that sounds right to me...

JCarder speaks the truth,

Last semester i wasted so much money on books and only used half of them.
Didnt not use them because im a lazy motherf-er, but because i didnt need them at all.

Ridiculous.

How the fuck do you guys pay $1000 for books; I've never gone over $500 for the year and that includes buying brand new Accounting books for which you need an online key or something.

And yes....$6000 is about right for the year.

$1,000 on books?

I NEVER had to spend that much on textbooks. Holy.

A tip that will save you on textbook money: Buy old editions of textbooks.

I thought it was ridiculous when I heard this in first year and bought the new shit. Thought I was baller till the end of the semester when I realized:

- Textbooks depreciate worse than a Hyundai Pony
- Never cracked them open enough to justify a $130 purchase
- I threw money in a pit.

I checked out a previous edition at the used bookstore ($10) and compared it to the newest edition ($125) and they were the same, verbatim.

That was the last time I ever bought new textbooks.

$1000 on books?? - my books were around $2000 per semester for the first year, and about $1000 a semester after that.

All depends on what you are taking. As for the "get the previous edition..." - Depends on what you are taking.

Go with what the course/prof recommends - it would suck to have to buy 2 books for one course because you tried to save some money / cheap out on your education.

I don't know about you flipstah, but with few exceptions, I use most of my textbooks in real life. I've ditched most of my math texts, since you really only need one, but my engineering books are worth their weight in gold.

x2.

Im not in eng. but some of my course related texts, will stay on my shevles for many many years.
Some books are 100% useless though.

One course last sem. i was a total keener and bought the books off the required list and never opened eaither.
First see what your prof. says, then buy the books.
Don't figure it out the hard way as i did.
