Sorry I'm not really contributing much, but isn't the thread title an oxymoron?

^^ haha ooooo.

Honestly Kilkenny has pretty good bangers and mash, shephards pie, and fish and chips. Considering it is 'irish' it isnt too bad.

Yeah, that's about all the good British places I could think of.

More helpful: the closest matches would be under pub food: http://www.urbanspoon.com/f/15/1432/Calgary/Pubs

Try Jamesons Irish Pub?I've had Bangers and Mash there and it wasn't too bad, Fish and Chips....is there a Billingsgate Seafood Restaurant there?

In Edmonton, the place to go is Brits Fish and Chips, as for Calgary, I dunno, try that place in Deerfoot Mall Food Court, they aren't too bad

For fish and chips, head to pelican pier.
For the rest, it's pretty hit and miss. The Boxty at Fion Macools is decent, but no idea if it's authentic or not.

Best fish and chips (british style) would be in McKenzie Towne at Sea on that main street....

The Coach and Horses in Millrise has decent British food. There's far better fish and chips out there (at the places mentioned above), but the rest is the best I've found in the South.

Not that I go looking, I've got a Mom, girlfriend and two in-laws that make the authentic stuff.

It's really gone down-hill in the past year. When I first started going there the portions were huge, everything was really fresh and I was always super impressed with the value and quality.

Now I feel cheated after eating there. It's really expensive for what you get, and it just doesn't taste like it used to... It's sad because I REALLY liked that place. The last 2 times I've eaten there I haven't been happy.

Not that it helps, but if you're ever around Nanaimo on the Island, the Crow and Gate makes unreal English pub food, and it was the firs t"neighbourhood pub" in BC!

Where can a guy get a proper British style steak pie in town?

Are you from Britain? If yes, then you will not find any fish and chips place here that compares to back there. Period.

Simple Simon pies do some tasty meat pies etc. Ship and Anchor does a full breakfast with beans...a British standard, and curry and chips. Any English stores now have a freezer in the back with imported food to cook yourself if you want something totaly authentic.
