View Full Version : Towing a low car

Hey guys,

So I have a 300zx that decided to simply stop running. I pulled it in, parked it for a couple of months, and when I went back to it, it would not start. Turns over just fine (when jumped). I can hear the fuel pump(s), and fuel is passing through the filter in the engine bay.

Not really sure why it isn't firing up, and don't know anything about these engines, so I really need to take it somewhere to get looked at. (Perhaps Autodream - where it was heavily modified.)

The problem is that it has an aftermarket front end and a rear diffuser, which sit the car only a few inches from the ground on both ends. I believe that any attempts at moving it with a flatbed and/or tow truck may break these.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking of somehow pre-jacking it on stands or something before the truck comes, but I haven't had a car towed for over a decade, and don't really recall the details of the angles they work with.

Flatdeck might work, I have seen them get down to a pretty low angle. Another choice would be a truck where they can drop the bed right off so its sitting on the ground, roll the car on and then lift it back the truck. We had one for the Bobcats. Call city wide towing.

They happen to have a few truck on the fleet that can hit pretty low angles.

My car has less than 2 inches of front clearance and I have had City Wide tow my card twice and I had no issues using a flatbed. We just used 2x4 and other small pieces of wood to get the car on the truck.

jack it up .. place it on 2x4's and flat bed it if your that worried
but ive always used flat beds on my cars also an ive never had a problem, an few of my cars were barely off the ground.

That or just take off the front bumper, it shouldn't be too hard.

Depending on where you tow hooks are, the bumper can still get damaged.

Yea this is the way I always have mine done. They (AMA) brought a flat bed for me once, but the thing came down at like a 45. Destroyed my front bumper, and my cars not even that low.
