87 usually esso. I've bought from safeway once. If you buy anything in the store you get a coupon for gas. If you use the coupon and have a safeway card, you get 7 0r 8 cents off per liter.

Are these gas's safe anyway?

When I had my Probe, I ran through whatever. I generally use either Shell or Esso, 87 octane.

Safeway gas is a blend of 25% esso and 75% shell gasoline.

I only purchase/use Esso 92-Octane fuel. My cars manual says that my car needs 93-octane to run properly... I don't know of any places here in Calgary that will meet this "requirement"... oh well... car runs great with 92! :)

question for you guys, I heard this a while back, that if you start using 92 Octane you can't go down to say 87 or 89 Octane... is that true? :dunno:

Esso 92...a tank a week almost...even the 4-cyl bmws suck gas, but then again driving around at WOT all the time will prolly do that

Shell 91, only cause I have a shell right by my house and have always liked it. I never run anything less than 91, some say why but what the hell, an extra 2-3 bucks per fill, and its not hurting it at all...Shell gives airmiles too...but I dont care about that...Its not flying me to Hawaii any time soon...especially when they only give you 1 airmile for every 20 bucks, and the most I can fit in my car is 38L, which is only 30 dollars...:(

Correction. Almost all safeway gas in calgary is 100% esso, all grades. It's the stations outside of the city like cochrane that use the esso/shell blend.

CO-OP Uses Shell from what I have Heard.

HRD2PLZ
08-23-2002, 03:09 PM
Shells airmiles is 1 airmile for the first $20 then 1 airmile for every $10 after that. So Benny, your actually getting 2 airmiles per $30 fill :) When I was Supervisor at McKenzie Shell, it was 1 for $15 and 1 for every $10 after that...they changed it last year I think...maybe 2 years ago...:dunno:

You can tell what stations use what fuel by the transport trucks. Shell uses Trimac (the maroon and white trucks). Esso uses Economy Carriers (the green and white trucks)

this does not make sence, because esso is 92 not 91, and safeway is 91 how is this?

Doesn't make a difference, 90% of it comes out of the same refinery in edmonton anyways.

The Shell stations near me all suck :(

My friend used nothing but Shell in his car and it always smelled like gas. One time he used a tank of Mobil and the smell went away, but then he started with Shell again and the smell came back...

Esso adds more chemicals into it's gas to get that rating, safeway does not.

It's all marketing IMO. Esso and Shell has nearly the same ping limits on my car (92 vs 91). Petro canada is terrible (91), 7-11 is great (Esso gas apparantly, says 91). Co-op is decent (91), not as good as Esso or Shell, but definately much better than Petro Canada. Haven't tried safeway or superstore yet...

When I first got my car I always filled it with Superstore Premium gas like I did with my Infiniti because it was cheaper and I got Superbucks to spend in the store and I didn't think there was a difference. (Yeah I know I'm cheap) I assumed Superstore was just reselling the gas of a larger company under its own brand name like it does many of their products. However, I filled it up with Esso Premium once and the car ran soooooo much better and smoother so I've switched permanently.

Everyone's always telling me that people piss in Superstore gas and that it's watered down and stuff...hehe. It's not worth saving a few dollars each time I fill if it's gonna be bad for my car.

Got to keep it real with 92 Octane at Esso.

Did you guys hear that walmart is going to be opening a station in the south (by mindipore or somewheres) and gas is suppose to be $0.43 for regular all the time. there is already one in edmonton

Shawnessy. The station in edmonton isn't actually in edmonton, it's in camrose, about an hour or so outside edmonton. At that price tho i think the math worked out to a loss of 2 million dollars a month at that station alone. it won't last long...

Some of you may remember my questions about my rotten egg smell exhaust... I've found that Esso makes it smell more than Shell or Petro...

Anyone have specs on the different brands of gas... like sulphur rating and whatnot?

4wheeldrift
08-27-2002, 09:25 AM
I don't know what the exact specs are, but I do know that shell has the lowest sulphur fuel in canada.

Mohawk only for me.... in both my old turbo car and my high compression 460 car (10.6's NA) . Seems that the added ethanol in the Mohawk gas keeps them running cooler, and supposedly makes a bit more power cause it is oxygenated.....something I guess I should test out....

I heard from somewhere that the ethanol and other additives in their gas are good for the Environment but bad for your engine

Anybody notice a change in octane in the last week, I've had 3 people mention knock from Esso ( Every Sucker Stops Once ) in octane sensitive cars ...
