Can anyone recommend a good weekend hike close to Calgary.

I just hiked Mt. Yamnuska recently. It's less than 45 minutes outside of Calgary.

Here are some websites you should look at.

The Lake Minnewanka loop is nice, leisurely 1.5 hour hike. Hang a right at the Banff exit instead of going into the town. It's about 10 minutes down the road.

Go to the Library and take out "Walks and Easy Hikes in the Canadian Rockies" by Graeme Pole There's pics, over 100 different hike/bike trails and directions to get there.

I borrowed this book like last week from them. :D

I did Pickle jar lakes hike yesterday. Well mostly I went there to fly fish but the hike was awesome. 5km took me about 2 hours, but it was pretty intense and it is far from town (160km). It is a nice retreat though. I only saw 2 groups of hikers and that was it. Lost count of the fish I caught so it was well worth it. Bring your bear tools.

Johnston Canyon has a nice trail up to the Inkpots. 5.6KM to get up there.

Some good multi-day trips I've done that are within 3 hours of Calgary:

1. Lake O'Hara in Yoho NP
2. Little Yoho Valley & Iceline Trail in Yoho NP
3. Rockwall Trail in Kootenay NP (just to Floe Lake if you only have 2 days)
4. Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park (Citadel Pass route is the most scenic - need 3 or 4 days though)
5. Egypt & Shadow Lakes via Healy Pass in Banff NP
6. Elbow Lake & Tombstone in Kananaskis

If you're willing to drive a long ways and it's a long weekend, the Berg Lake Trail, Amethyst Lakes Trail, and Skyline Trail up closer to Jasper are great.

Any other good day fish/hikes out there besides picklejar and rawson lakes?
