Twenty-seven Canadian bills, taken mostly from Toronto and the Sarnia, Ont., area, were analyzed, said lead researcher Yuegang Zuo, a chemistry and biochemistry professor at the University of Massachusetts in Dartmouth.

Of the Canadian bills, 85 per cent had traces of cocaine. The amount of coke found on the banknotes ranged from 2.4 micrograms to 2,530 micrograms — equal to about 100 grains of sand.
27 bills? Nice sample size. I'd hardly call that a study but interesting nonetheless.

the states has the same problem... in some areas 100% of the bills had traces of cocaine....

on a related note, i saw an elderly 40s, greased back hair 'i'm still young! the metrosexual clothes'll cover it up' guy at seven this past weekend, when he pulled out his $$ to pay for his drink this rolled up $20 fell out of his pocket lol, bounced off the stool like a slinky, he quickly snatched it off the floor and looked around.

I suspect the cocaine was transfered from the hands of the guys who did this test. They had to have been doing lines to even think that sampling 27 bills is going to somehow help law enforcement find patterns.


Such studies can be useful for police, said Zuo, because they can help identify drug traffic patterns in a particular community

I have a story related to this (if anyone cares):

I went on a tour of the Drumheller penitentiary a few years ago and they tested the drivers licenses of everyone in our group. Most of these came up positive for some type of drug. As I recall, amphetamines and cocaine were the drugs detected. We were still allowed in though, because apparently they just deny entry to people when the amount of drug detected is above a certain threshold. The guards told us at that time that most Canadian money tests positive for cocaine, but at minute levels.
