To elaborate on that point, if a particular trust has an ROC or dividend component in the distribution, then the taxation will be more favourable. The distribution structure will differ from trust to trust. However, with TET.un, distributions are not tax efficient. They are 100% taxable at your marginal rate since there is zero ROC.

Sorry just noticed 4DoorGTZ's post. Also don't forget that trusts pay dividends so it isn't taxed at the same level as a capital gain.
Huh? WTF are you talking about...LOL
Its 25cents per unit. So for example, if you bought 1000 shares or "units" you would get 25 cents per unit that you own, per month. Which equals $250.00/mth. * that by 12months and you get $3000.00/year
If you paid $21.00/unit, it would cost you $21,000.00. So do the math now. Even if the the stock price doesn't move at all, you are still making 14.2%/year on your $21,000.00 investment.
Get it?

Isn't that what I said? What's so different. I used 1 Trust Unit for my example and you used 1000. It's not rocket science.

Thanks for the elaboration and pointing out my mistake. :) I didn't even bother checking into what the distribution was made up of.

Google Alerts works pretty good. Sometimes it sends alot of crap but it's worth setting up.
If you're looking for just PLE though they seem to release everything through http://www.ccnmatthews.com so just set up their RSS feed for the latest news. I just have it on my Google Homepage.
Also if anyone is interested in GOOG their Q1 earnings will be released on Thursday. It's always a gamble with GOOG but if you call it right some good money to be made (or lost) on Options that expire on Friday.

Anyone use e trade? Im thinking of taking my TD Waterhouse stuff over there but was wondering what the best way to do it would be to do it? As in, without having to sell here and buy there and lose all that comission money? Or is it better to just wait till I want to sell something then start buying with e*trade?

PLE is up, but not near where it was before it fell.
It was almost at .50 and it's now at like .325. Up 18% in one day. But still down big time for anyone who bought while it was low 40's or high 30's.
I think it will rise to high 30's tomorrow. And hopefully hang around there for a while.

Good news for all you ROL.A fans:
Rolling Thunder announces test results of Peace River Arch well
CALGARY, Apr 20, 2006 (Canada NewsWire via COMTEX News Network) --
Rolling Thunder Exploration Ltd. ("Rolling Thunder" or the "Corporation") (TSX-V: ROL.A, ROL.B; OTC Pink Sheets: RTHXF) advises that the Corporation has recently tested a light oil zone in one of its 100% working interest Peace River Arch wells. The well was flowed through a 12.7mm choke for a period of 23 hours and 30 minutes at an average flowing pressure of 3726 Kpa. Through the duration of the test, the flowing tubing pressure declined from 3995 Kpa to 3528 Kpa while the casing pressure increased from 2400 Kpa to 3779 Kpa. Cumulative production for the 23.5 hours of flow was 237.6 m3 (1,494 bbls) of 38.4 degrees API oil, 24.8 E3M3 (875 mcf) of gas and 3.16m3 (19.8 bbls) of water. The duration of the test was limited due to the capacity to handle produced fluids during breakup conditions. Efforts are underway to tie the well in and therefore allow further testing and evaluation after break-up. Due to the limited duration of the test, a forecast of the on-stream productivity cannot be made at present.

What does it matter to you? The more blind speculators you have, the more volume trades. More volume means more volatility. And when a stock is going up, more volatility means that it will push even higher than it should normally.
You should be happy that there are investors that buy stock based solely on a tip from someone else.

04-21-2006, 08:41 AM
^ Yeah. I learned something here with ROL.A, so that's a good thing. Bottom line, I'm ahead of the game for having bought it. So, I'm good - just shy about $1600 of what I should have made! Which, well, is a lot of cash.

It doesn't matter to me at all actually. I'm just stating that people don't know why share prices moved up or dogged for the day.
Yes, thank you for telling me how volume helps a stock move up and down.
80% of people buy stocks based solely on tips from other people. Why do you think people go to Investment Advisors/Financial Planners?
I'm happy people are making money off tips from beyond... means people can go buy more stuff for their cars and whatnot.

new penn west:
135,000 boe/d
38% light oil & NGLs
48% natural gas
14% heavy oil
good for current holders... but I personally wouldn't be buying penn west or petrofund right now. as for loading up on the new penn west, I won't be doing that personally. The thing is that these trust funds keep spinning off explorecos like theres no tomorrow.

The new junior will receive assets from both Penn West and Petrofund, hitting the ground with roughly 1,500 to 2,000 BOE per day of production. The junior will be managed by former Petrofund executives, including Jeffrey Newcommon, who will become president and chief executive officer, Glen Fischer, chief operating officer, and Jeffery Errico, who will chair the new exploreco's board of directors.

Hey Rav,
how long have you been in the business?
I'm looking at that newco the same way I did with the spinoff from Baytex. Crew Energy. Look how well they are doing from their opening price.
Any of the explorico companies being spun off from the Big Trust companies are no brainers IMO.

well, and that's something that you like to invest in. Some people like energy trusts because they pay a dividend.. some people don't. I do like my junior speculative companies (canadian or internation) as well as my private placements.
Just because there has been a couple of success stories from spin-offs doesn't mean all of them will be like that. I like to gather as much information before I purchase it myself. One thing that I do not do is to promote stocks that I currently own (securities regulation).
I've gone to school in this industry and now work in the industry.... why?

LOL.. why? I really don't see the point in this. We trying to prove something here? Obviously I'm not participating in this thread to flex my brain muscles or to see who's got a better track record.
In the meantime, markets are closed and i'm off. Have a good weekend guys.

I have to agree there. I work in the field for some of these companies, for only 3 years now but I've followed some of their transitions since then and its almost always up. (mind you the market and oil&gas has only gone up since then)
I've always had in interest in stocks and finance, and as such have kept an eye on some of the companies we work/worked for.
Baytex-->Baytex Energy Trust-->Crew Energy
Viracocca(sp?)-->trust co. name slips my mind-->Chamaelo Expl.
I'm gonna be watching the penn west/petrofund exploreco as well.
Lastly.... I'm in love with ROLA, my holdings are up 156%

Some good info here guys. Here is an email from a broker to a friend of mine for Zedi Solutions, indicating that the institutional inverstors are buying for the long term which will drive up the price as the hold their position. I am buying another 2000 shares today. Yahoo reports and analyst opinions on this company are very positive. 1.80 price target for this year:
If you look at a 2 year chart of ZED you will see a long bottoming pattern from Aug of last year. This is sometimes referred to as a distribution period. Stock is moving from weak hands (impatient short term investors) into strong hands. As long as management delivers the goods, the stock should trend up from here. Watch for quarterly report in May. Regards
As well, check out JNR Resources. It just broke its 52 week high last week and it promising according to a broker I talked to.

Not sure why you guys are selling, unless of course you really need the money.
I don't plan on selling for years.

I'm back into ROL.A this morning.
Made myself about $700 today. Sold it already. Cuz, well, I'm impatient.
Had I held onto my initial share purchase, I would have profited by about $6,040.00. So, I'm still gagged about that, but hey, I'll take $700. ;)
Chump change compared to $6k profit. But whatever.
I had a couple thousand sitting in a cash account that I forgot about, and decided to dump it into ROL.A. LOL.
