looks like it was indeed a buy on rumor sell on news event. that makes it no way the market would produce any siginifcant technical breakouts today.

if oil comes down I would say the 49-50 area looks good for a bounce

Alright, what is up? That was one hell of a busy lunch hour. Payday right?

Okay, are we going to see 10,000 or 9000 next week?

I'm tempted to sell my other financial/energy stocks but the market is just so strong.

HGU finally in the green for me. My cost on HOU is $5.25 and I want to keep it but SR said short at resistance so I sold it. In SR we trust.

DNDN isn't moving so you just think everyone is waiting for next week.

interesting read on oil supply on a decline.

if we put everything together. Have we seen the bottom for oil? at 33?

if so I'll be dam looking for a spot to go long again lol

I guess many underestimated the strength of this multi week rally. with the stress test result coming in May. Anything could happen, but technically it does appear every index is ready for more upside.

I see SAM getting out of HOU, well I dont hold any position. but if I do I would get out around 51.50 as well. either wait for a pull back to 49-50 or until the market confirms 51.50 indeed becomes a support.

we'll soon find out if the purple line will be the floor up or a resistance headed down.

Looks like SR was right with selling HOU. Oil futures are down right now. I have a buy order set at $5.20 anticipating a $3 drop. lol

Dow futures also down. TSX to follow suit?

Two more sleeps until DNDN releases their numbers.

See you guys in the morning.

ok so oil did come down about 3 dollar as expected. Question is, is it a good buy.

With the market ready to open lower (not sure if this is because of the outbreak in mexico) or the market is preparing for the the auto companies chapter 11 or if this is simply the start of the market drop we've been expecting technically.

it doesnt matter. oil will reflect it in the price if it wants to go up or down.

With 51.5 holding, this further fuels the significance of this down trend line (marked by upper green) that when it is eventually broken to the upside and sustains above, will be the 1st step in pushing oil to new heights.

However right now the 50% retracement from its 51.70 hight to its 45.5 low is holding it in place. But this is such an awkward area, since it just so happens to be underneath its 61% retracement from its 55 peak to 45 low, it is also flerting right around the level in which is had tested a godzillion times last week both as a support and resistance. Therefore the area 49.05 is quite the important number here.

Normally I Would suggest if oil cannot hold above 49.05 it would collaspe to 44 the next major support and most likely buy point. I will have to say dont be fool as there is still one more underlying support area and that is right at 48.00, this is both the smaller .61% retracement of the recent low to peak as well as the 50day EMA on the daily chart.

How to trade this? well normally I would make sure oil can stay above 49.05 and see what type of reversal pattern is on the table, but if you want to bottom pick I'll say any where between 48-49.05 is a good place for an entry. Make sure you set a tight stop just tad below 47.73, because a break lower would negate the previous reverse H&S and I think when this happens, it will look as though oil wants to test the bottom of this downward channel which is now around 44. Or another way is to wait for oil to break above 49.17 (current high) and put a even tigher stop below today's low.

edit: remember you must put stops, with the Swine Flu on all news channel, this would hit major travel and airlines and for the time being, oil could continue its weakness down to 44 as a high probability. So keep your profits short and move your stops accordingly

http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk118/genmaster/oil47.jpg

And gold, as I wrote last week, and in my refreshed LT chart over at the other thread. after a break 902, gold undoubtedly went after 918 and to the dollar it did. IT has since pulled back to 911 as 918 is short term bear's last fort, loosing here would open gold up between 920-967. If gold's bullish out look is back, then its only a matter of time before it takes out 918. but if it does not and say it breaks below 900 especially 880, then this could signal gold may be headed lower say 843. If you think last week was important for gold, think this week as well.

id say if DOW closes below 7779, then 7500 here we come. ITs getting more difficult for the marke to hold its rally, even if it doesnt go down, it would move side ways.

interestingly, didnt the SARS breakout was like march 2003? and since then the market manage a rally then side ways for quite some time.

if so, then the flu is actually good for the market? lol because once it is over, people buy stocks again with confidence. Just BS imo

your giving me too much credit for my work, im bound to be wrong on one of these calls.

anyways 50.14 is a resistance then follow by 51.22

I'm just going to take my profit at 50, logically you can move your stops (those that got in below 49) and you can shoot for 51.22, I wont hold it beyond that untill it can break above and stay there.

looking at the chart, Assuming it pans out, looks like if it forms a reverse at around 50, we could see a H&S formation with the break below 48 will push the projected decline of 3.7 dollars to 44.3 wow what a coincident 44 is our big support. So I'll be either waiting for a break above 51.5 or a 44 which I think HOU should be at 4.20s

wow didnt expect oil to move that fast,

anyhow im happy with my gains nonethe less.

now im not sure if this is what is happening but looking at the same chart, notice how on the 21st, with the roll over effect, price was simply moving down to fill the gap but the trend was clearly up from there.

are we seeing a deja vu here that with the gap this morning, oil is simply trying to fill the gap higher before resuming a down trend.

for the time being I believe the area 51.2-51.70 will continue to provide resistance.

surely what this prelude is, if and when oil does trade above 51.50 comfortably, that would be the leg up higher, until then, you can trade the swings in between with tight stop

^ if you love the action you could swing trade a sell near 51 stop above 51.71 and buy near 48 with stop below 47.73, anything in between will be noise.

for me depending on my mood I may or may not trade the above, I rather shoot for a higher probability play and that is above 51.7 and or at 44

not much change for oil technical out look, pattern wise still favors a bearish scenario as seen here closing below the purple uptrend on the 1hr chart would probablly be the beginning of this H&S break down but i wont rule out price can overshoot and reverse in either direction. So the case can be given that closing over either purple line would indicate direction.

be prepare for some volaility swings here.

http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk118/genmaster/oil50.jpg

gold surprisingly 918 held up, geez who would of thought, should of known this is coming since last week, so now that got the rejection only to proves that the down trend line right at 918 is valid, when will we break this? will until it does we are not out of the woods, currenly the 38% and 50% retracement is holding gold up at around 894-899, I would only be a bit concern if it closes below 888 as it indicates it wants to test 880 and 865.

Now im starting to hear if it does break down below 880, this could also indicate that gold isnt done dropping as what appears to be a 3 wave ABC correction, could suddenly turn into a 5 wave pattern with 918 being the 4th wave top and now 5th way underway.

That is why as I have written for weeks the importance of breaking the 918 number so that we can confirm the 865 indeed has bottomed and we can look forward to some medium term upside.

looks like its quite obvious the prostate cancer trial failed. and I'm guessing maybe the exchange halted the stock right away?

They halted before the official release, and the official release now out shows it is very much a success. The stock will open after hours or for the morning and it is going to go no where but up up up

Data Presented at AUA Demonstrate PROVENGE Significantly Prolongs Survival for Men With Advanced Prostate Cancer in Pivotal Phase 3 IMPACT Study

CHICAGO and SEATTLE, April 28, 2009 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- (PR NewsWire)

Dendreon Corporation (Nasdaq: DNDN) today announced that its pivotal Phase 3 IMPACT study of PROVENGE(R) (sipuleucel-T) in men with advanced prostate cancer met its primary endpoint of significantly improving overall survival compared to placebo. The data were presented at the American Urological Association (AUA) Annual Meeting.

The intent-to-treat analysis demonstrated that:

"These results confirm the clinical value of PROVENGE to prolong survival in patients with advanced prostate cancer. Moreover, it validates the longstanding but elusive aspiration to harness a patient's own immune system to fight cancer," said Philip Kantoff, MD, head of the prostate cancer program and chief of the division of solid tumor oncology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School and a principal investigator of the IMPACT study.

PROVENGE is Dendreon's investigational product candidate for men with advanced prostate cancer and represents the first in a new class of active cellular immunotherapies (ACI) specifically designed to engage the patient's own immune system against cancer.

"The results from this landmark study confirm that PROVENGE prolongs survival with a favorable benefit to risk profile," said Paul Schellhammer, MD, professor of urology at Eastern Virginia Medical School / Sentara medical group and a principal investigator of the IMPACT study.

"The treatment effect on overall survival was clinically meaningful, robust and consistent across subpopulations, and the effect on long-term survival was particularly impressive. If approved, PROVENGE has the potential to fill a large unmet medical need and create a new paradigm using immunotherapy for the treatment of men with advanced prostate cancer."

IMPACT was conducted under a Special Protocol Assessment (SPA) agreement with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Because the data meet the criteria and specifications outlined in its SPA agreement, Dendreon intends to file an amendment to its existing Biologic License Application in the fourth quarter of this year to gain licensure of PROVENGE.

"Today's results confirm the potential for PROVENGE in prostate cancer and validate the potential of our pipeline of active cellular immunotherapy product candidates that may help patients who are diagnosed with other cancers," said Mitchell H. Gold, MD, president and chief executive officer of Dendreon. "With these data, we will advance through the clearly defined regulatory process with the FDA to seek licensure of PROVENGE to fulfill our mission of serving these critically ill patients who currently have few appealing treatment options."

"We are incredibly grateful to our clinical investigators, the scientific community, our employees, and, most importantly, the men with advanced prostate cancer who have participated in our clinical trials over the last decade and whose courage and contribution have significantly advanced the understanding and treatment of prostate cancer and the potential role of cancer immunotherapies," added Dr. Gold.

Prostate cancer is the most common non-skin cancer in the United States and the third most common cancer worldwide. More than one million men in the United States have prostate cancer, with an estimated 186,320 new cases and approximately 28,660 men expected to die from the disease in 2008. Currently there are limited treatment options for men with advanced, metastatic prostate cancer.

IMPACT Study Detail and Additional Results

IMPACT (IMmunotherapy for Prostate AdenoCarcinoma Treatment) was a 512-patient, multi-center, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study evaluating men with asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic, metastatic, androgen-independent prostate cancer, and the primary endpoint was overall survival.

In addition to the results described above, the treatment effect was consistent across multiple patient subsets and remained consistent using the log rank test and an unadjusted Cox model (HR=0.766, p-value=0.023), and after adjustment for docetaxel use following investigational therapy (HR=0.763; p-value=0.036). Prostate cancer-specific survival also favored the PROVENGE arm (HR=0.772; p-value=0.036). Consistent with other trials in this patient population, PROVENGE did not significantly delay time to progression. The adverse events seen more commonly in PROVENGE-treated patients were chills, fever, and headache. These events were primarily low grade with a short duration of 1-2 days following infusion.

This is a funny case.

I am sure it will go up but I believe that at around $24 this news was already mostly priced into the stock.

What target are you looking at Eljefe? To me $29 looks natural at this point, but I haven't been following Provenge like some others on this board.

Unless a major news release is scheduled for after hours a stock is usually halted to let investors digest the info contained in something as major as this.

As for the drastic drop my guess would be one of two things 1) misinformation and bad rumours or 2) someone holding a lot got a really bad case of the pre release jitters.....basically some good ole fashioned herd mentality.

Oh shit. They are talking about Dendreon on BNN. They are saying it increased the survival rates of patients with advanced prostate cancer by 38%. NASDAQ ceased trading to investigate some last minute trades that may have been made in error.

Whew. It took me forever to try to make a post. Down two men at work today. Had to work my ass off. Anyway, prior to that, reading eljefe's posts eased my nerves a bit. Sure I only have 500 shares but that's $10K potentially down the drain lol

It would have been filled if it was made prior to the trade halt. That's interesting actually.

It looks like a brokerage error. It's good for those who had a buy order but sucks for those who got stopped out. The window of opportunity was 2 minutes. There are going to be a lot of pissed off investors!

15:05:01 EST NASDAQ has reviewed the transactions under rule 11890 (b) on its own motion filing involving the security Dendreon Corp. (NASDAQ: DNDN) executed between 13:25:00 and 13:27:02 ET today and has determined that all trades will stand. This decision cannot be appealed.

In short, if you got stopped out or shaken out of or into the stock, NASDAQ is telling you “Tough Cookie!”

Back in October 2008, DNDN was considered one of the world's scariest stocks. http://www.fool.com/investing/dividends-income/2008/10/31/worlds-scariest-stock-dendreon.aspx

It definitely sucks if are caught on the wrong end. in*10*se is a good example of that. So what if his shares cost $4.39? He got stopped out at $12 and it's trading at $26 right now in after hours? All because of an 'Oops, my bad' from the brokerage? LOL

I would be choked too.

Remember it wasn't too long ago when the TSX shut down for a day. Earlier RBC wasn't working. TD has also gone down previously. Nothing you can do. Frustrating no doubt. :banghead: :nut: :dunno:

Hmm very intersting day for this stock. I dont think it was a brokerage error. Could have been a large short sale or just a big market sell order. Anyways it is really unfortunate for the longs who got stopped out on the way down. I think the news is going to be positively accepted by the market tomorrow... If someone short sold that amount they are gonna get whacked tomorrow, could see a little short squeeze, which would really push up the share price! Cant wait to see what price it opens at.

"Dendreon will use the data released today to seek U.S. permission to sell Provenge, its first product, the CEO said today. Dendreon will submit its data to the FDA in the fourth quarter, he said. "

so until then what will move the stock ?

maybe this?

"Dendreon said on the conference call that it wont seek a U.S. marketing partner for Provenge, while the company would consider overseas partnerships for the drug."

by "shut it down" do you mean halt? Usually when a big news release is coming down the pipe they will halt the stock, release the news, then they remove the halt and shares can resume trading. This allows the market participants to "fairly" interpret the news. I dont think it was a news leak either as i think the news is positive.

i get what you mean but isn't it kinda odd though? just before it was halted for the news to be released the stock plunged 45% ??

They shut it down to investigate possible brokerage error. The data released was positive.

So it's going to pop (hopefully) based on the data. Probably move sideways for a bit and as the date gets closer to submitting to the FDA, it might move up and pending approval, the stock will either pop again or tank. Well, that's pretty much what in*10*se wrote way back two weeks ago.

I'm trying to find an exit point here. In at $17, anything over $27 is gravy to me. I don't know if I can hold out for the home run shot in the 4th quarter. At the same time, I don't exactly need this money right now. My portfolio is 60% cash right now with a small position in energy, financial, gold, Lulu and this.

I don't know about being smart. When the stock plunged to $12 and trading halted, I'm surprised the lurkers/haters didn't move in for a punch or two. LOL

It was purely a speculative gamble emphasized many times by in*10*se. I bought in knowing it was all or nothing. I was using my last two months gains from the TSX to cushion the possibility of losing my money.

My comments on oil:

Looks to be forming a bull flag, and is starting in the final phase waiting to breakout. There is extra support at the $48.50 level with the 50 day moving average and 38.2% fib retrace.

My problem with this scenario is the market is overextended on every level, MACD has already rolled over, and the impending May sell off is just around the corner. It only seems right that the market takes a step back before moving forward. If this happens we all know that oil is unlikely to head north when the market heads south.

So it offers a mixed picture, but who knows, maybe we are still due to test 925 before retesting the lows. After all looking back in 2002-2003, the market traded in much the same pattern from the low and stalled before finally making a push to the 66% retracement level from the last dive in the market (April 2002) which also happened to be around 930 on the SP500.

As usual nothing new, but if the market decides to rally it looks like oil is ready for a breakout that should push it past that $55 mark.

Perhaps since everyone is expecting the rally to fizzle it out, it is going to surge forward one last time before we retest maybe 800, or 740, or in a bad case the 660.

Cheap comissions for sure. I just use their online webtrader which is a pretty basic package, but I can't download their Java system at work so I haven't fooled around with it much. If you open a cash account, be aware that cash has to settle (trade day +3) before you can use it again. It's not an issue with margin accounts.

Ok its Wed I know, and the big monday is fast approaching, we could see some big swings soon if not now.

looking at oil as I posted the chart yesterday, oil manage to close above the upper purple grid (down trendline from 51.70) and so it I believe has taken out the H&S possiblity, not 100% but the pattern does not look that bearish any more. And so at 50.70 there is a higher probability that it can test 51.2 again.

if it closes above 51.33 it could be the signal that it is about to break higher. The US dollar is dropping and at anymoment any further decline of the US dollar will indicate a breaking in the trend to the down side as well.

There are people out there calling for higher US dollar, and so I thought the same, but if somehow it surprise us all by dropping NOW. then that will mean stock market, oil AND gold will most likely head higher as weak US dollar = resumption of inflation. Because it is not that the value of oil, gold or equity is growing, rather it is because it is gainning strength against the US dollar that is all. Sound odd? better believe it, the 2002-07 was the perfect example of an inflationary enviorment, but real term value growth was nil.

technically all eyes on oil above 51.33 mark IMO yes previous peak at 51.70 but remember when oil was flerting with 45? that was the down trendline at the time, it did broke out but shortly after came back down, however it was the signal that oil was headed north and it too did, went as high as 54.75 I Believe. So no different this time around, closing above 51.33 or breaking above 51.70 most likely will tease us with 55-65 oil.

as for gold, gold's fall back from 918 was expected. and I was told the vol from 902-918 was big, but the vol from 918 to the 883 low was weak which suggest the drop was fake. so all eyes if it can break back above 902, if it does, it will test 915-918 again. And if we do break it, we will open to 920-967 gold for the month of May. Will we break 1000? we will have to wait and see. breaking 1000 is huge IMO. If breaking 918 opens the door to 920-967 then breaking above 1033 should also open the door immediately to 1200-1300.

downside risk is if gold closes below 880, that is an early indicator that gold couldnt hold its momentum and that would also indicate it is most likly forming a 5th wave down that could potentially hit 843 and worse case 823 for the next bottom.

we are getting closer and closer and the market needs to show its hand soon.
