sorry folks I was away, had to take rest of day off to bring my car in for a quick fix.

im glad hgu went up as it should. however as to how much higher it will go obviously no one knows. If the stock market is indeed in a funk and downtrend it goes, then holding hgu long term may not be such a great idea.

but that is not to say we couldnt set our eyes on our nearest target. which is the 38% retracement at around 350 for the hui. so that is another 20 pts or so to go whch puts hgu at around 12.43.

My recommendation is to sell half, and use the other half move your gains to zero and attack 350 hui. After that it gets messy. and unless the US dollar index breaks below 79.19, then we are very much in a down trend for gold and equities.

now oil so far is playing out text book. after finding support at around 67, it started a pull back to its own retracement levels. it got as far as the 50% at around 69.60, clearly it has been rejected and would have been a good place to open a short however I'll wait for 70+ with stops above 73. why stop at 73? because if oil has topped out, it should not break 73 and if it does, you will have to change to short to buying as it means oil has one more leg higher.

well yesterday was more or less positive but you can tell the market didnt rally as much as I would hope. And that is a concern. Even when the euro rallied 300 pts and the US dollar dipped quite alot, gold only managed to muster about 10ish dollar on the upside which is yet a concern.

looking at the charts. while there seems to be alittle reverse head and shoulder pattern on the 1 hour chart, the break above 923 would target at least 933 which happens to be the 200 EMA. will we at least get there? I hope. for the sake of us all who is holding HGU. ,

the red line is potential negative divergence which means price is getting exhusted, as I write this it has punched thru 933 and touched 941 I believe. 943 will be the heaviest resistance. No matter we just all want to cash in, look for today to start taking profit off the table.

http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk118/genmaster/gold062409.jpg

and for oil, while it would be a very good spot to short gold at 70+, however there is a chance that the 69.5 price it hit yesterday may have been the top, it also was the 200EMA so it was twice the resistance, if the general feeling is we are still very much in a down leg then I view any rally in oil is a shorting opportunity at this juncture.

OPTI deal speaks to cautious market
Andrew Willis

Tuesday, June 23, 2009
OPTI Canada is trying to sell $150-million of shares overnight Tuesday
in an underwriting that speaks to the market’s new, cautious mood.

The bull market that played out from March until recent weeks saw a
series of companies, including a number of oil and gas plays, raise
money in quick, clean bought deal financings.

Now investors are trying to come to grips with economic uncertainty,
and volatile energy prices. That translates into a low-risk approach
to underwriting. Rather than a bought deal, which see a brokerage
house buy equity and shoulder the risk of selling stock, OPTI Canada
opted for a marketed deal, which will see investors pitched its story
overnight, and a price for the offering set early Wednesday.

OPTI Canada needs money to develop its Long Lake oil sands project,
and to pay down debt. A portion of this share sale may be used to
knock back what’s owed on a $350-million revolving credit facility.

TD Securities, Credit Suisse and RBC Dominion Securities are leading
the OPTI Canada share sale.

well NG is tough to play especially when the market is in a retreat mode.

however number wise the 5.88 50 day moving average should offer some kind of support. and so it bounced off that this morning so far, I would say you can attamp long below 6 dollars but have stops if 5.88 breaks.

again Im waiting for a much lower NG before I enter or start playing it.

I want 2 dollar NG come on

if NG does get into the 2s, the idea is to buy HNU, as soon as it pops say to 4-6 dollars I will exit and turn all my money into gas.to

max_boost
06-24-2009, 11:22 AM
GAS is a lot steadier than HNU. More of a long term play?

52 week range $6.40 low and $32.26 high.

52 week range $3.40 low and $11.98 high for nat gas.

:dunno:

I'm thinking of putting a significant money into GAS and letting it sit there and wait for nat gas to bounce back, thoughts? Seems like a safe move?

When will we see $10-15 nat gas again?

Dinan
06-24-2009, 11:23 AM

exactly, HNU 2x is too volatile, gas.to is more stable so I would want to capitalize on HNU when it first rallies after its more or less a trend thing and you just want to play it safe with gas.to after wards.
NG aint going to zero, but sure can surprise you by hitting even low as 1 dollar, by moving your 2x fund over to gas.to it gives you a sure win situation even if NG was to dip lower (assuming you catch the big up move)

phew, looks like sentiment is strong US dollar what ever the news was about since euro is tanking and, gold and oil should drop in time

looks like US dollar index having trouble trying to get back above 8- as euro is fighting trying to break down but every dip was counter with alot of buying.

Not sure who is going to win because if the US dollar looses, of course it will sent everything back up.

but no matter I have to pick a side and so far the charts are setting up for US dollar to gain strength I'll just have to stick to my gun :nut:

SilverRex
06-25-2009, 06:15 AM
ok yesterday while we are all impressed with Gold share's continious run higher, it isnt really any surprise since based on the hui index there wasnt really any resistance going from 330 to 350, and since gold and shares were oversold so much, there was clearly alot of buying strength lifting it higher.

looking at gold first today, it has started to make another attampt to attack yesterdays high. The same resistance overhead lies ahead at 943-945 including the down trend line. Currently I do not expect gold to be able to pass this area because if it does, it will look a bit bullish, while there is always a chance anything can happen, if things goes our way. I expect gold to hit a wall just like it did yesterday when it first touched 941.

why do I say this? well so far the euro which dropped alot against the USD yesterday as tried to rally overnight and this morning and so far it is unsucessful, and given the euro I think makes up 57% of how it reports the US dollar index, I could only assuming the strength in US dollar remains in tact and further strength should lie ahead but wont be surprise if there is some sort of retracement before it slings higher. after all its been weeks and we could still be in a range bound enviorment until it breaksouts which so far the edge has to be a breakout upwards for the dollar.

http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk118/genmaster/gold062509.jpg

and for oil, while technically having oil being rejected at its 200 EMA, 50% retracement and also a negative divergence to price on the STOCHastic 1 hour chart is a sell trigger signal. So far it has not dropped as much as I would like it to, even in face of a very strong US dollar, it just keeps creeping back up. No matter, the bias at this point in time still favors the dollar so I must have say any rally is viewed as shorting opportunity. It is now trading back at 69.40s, it would be an ideal situation to fall now and break lower than yesterday's low, that would quickly put a dent in the price as 3 spike will be a perfect small H&S pattern that will target but in the 66s area.

some special numbers that could be a good place to short oil is 70.60 and 71.68 (if it gets that high)

I was up $.25 / share this morning so I bailed on it at $6.10. Don't know what it is at now, but I guess I'll go look and buy back in.

Biggest mistake this week, had 2000 shares of HGU at 10.58 and sold it all by 10.73. Missed out on a few thousand bucks!!! Had I just held it... :nut:

I feel your pain. I was in essentially the same boat, held a bit longer than you but not long enough. I suppose it would be futile to tell you that hindsight is 20/20. I know its always good to walk away with some cash instead of no cash but seeing how much was left on the table always sucks.

I think the "last friday of the month" has more to do with the fact that the markets are generally entering or are in the "bid week" mode to determine the monthly index price for physical crude or natural gas.

This would in turn push next month futures prices higher.

My style has changed. I only have XIU right now. For every +/- 100pts on the TSX, I am +/- $1000. I can sleep well at night. I don't have to do any research whatsoever. There is nothing to speculate about. Life is much simpler now.

Again, don't fight the force. Go UP, not DOWN.

Happy trading. :D

Max_boost how many shares of XIU do you have if you dont mind me asking?

Phew sold off HOD at 11.60 for a small loss, and bought in HOU at 9.85 so hopefully that was the right move. It seems when I dont watch the markets they go my way since when I did the HOD/HOU swap HOD went to 11.80 n HOU went to 9.80 :(

Alright picked up a small position in HOD. going to wait and see what happens tmr to see if i want to pick up the remaining position. doubt it will be a problem. Fri is usually pretty quiet anyway. Right now my wager is almost on what will happen over the weekend.
