thanks for the economics course...

I think every basic investor (should) know that as interest rates rises, stock prices go down due to higher and safer returns on bonds. an inverse relationship.... just like as interest rates go up... bond prices go down.

anyways, I hope everyone rides these waves for a bit longer and don't panic. It'll correct itself as per usual.

Oh yeah.... I am still bullish on the markets long term.... I really hope/feel that the dow will be in new high territory this year... maybe 14,000+

I also think/hope the Nasdaq will top 3000, and oil will fall below $60.

But I'm always wrong, which is why I started playing options lol

I was going to buy in to SGP at 0.60 but decided against it. Good thing.

I put in 5 buy orders today, trying to get stupid cheap deals from anyone desperate to sell. But it didn't buy anything, as I was always 0.01 too cheap on my buy order. LOL. Oh well.

The one that I wanted in most was PTU. It's cheap!

the mid-term election year of a second presidential term tends to be a dangerous time for stocks. Since 1950, stocks have lost more than 3% on average between May and October during a mid-term election year. And this year, low presidential approval numbers may add fuel to the fire. During periods when the approval rating was under 35%, as it is now, the Dow declined an average of 6%.

For those inclined toward the truly scary, only one other time has a low presidential approval and a mid-term election year converged. That was in 1974, when stocks ultimately fell more than 40% amid the Watergate scandal, impeachment hearings and a gasoline price shock.

Not saying this has to happen, but as always, the probability is there.... tread lightly I would say lol.

gold is rapidly declining
the day always starts good but by the end of the day the tsx is always down 100+ points

I'm contemplating on selling while i'm still ahead and put it into my low risk long term porfolio. But that's assuming my current holdings will continue to go down.. I think I might just hold out though.. we'll see how it goes.

djayz

i think theres a lot more day trading going on now than before thats why the markets open so well and then the profit taking begins and it drags on all day long and at the end of the day everything is in the negative.

i couldve bought 2 stocks that i held just a week ago and in one day i wouldve made more than i did holding them for 3 months

day trading is a drop in the bucket compared to institutional buying and hedge funds.... so no, that is not what it is...

with your little penny stocks, daytrading plays a big role, as the promoters constantly flip stock back and forth between various accounts.... promoters are paid by the volume they create, so they are always washing blocks back and forth and trying to make a buck doing it.... the advantage they usually have over u and me is they know exactly what is going on, news realease info ahead of time etc...

That's why I dont fuck with penny stocks anymore... broad markets decline 2%, penny stocks dump 50% lol... chickenshit promoters bail cause they never actually had money in the account, so they dont wanna have to cover, especially a ta potential loss....

djayz
05-25-2006, 07:54 PM
^
i was referring to penny stocks...such as ple...ptu...spx...rev

i know the more expensive stocks arent exactly day traded only hedge funds and larger funds have the ability to manipulate those stock prices.

anywho nice day for the tsx came back pretty much from this whole week in one day but i was expecting some bigger gains on somethings that have tanked the last few days

haha whoever had the buy order in for 100,000 would have got ripped off all the way up to the last stock left in his buy order.
and that definately wouldve driven the price up huge.

average volume for sgp is under 50000 some days even less than 10000
only when theres an increase or decrease of more than 10 cents do we see volume exceed 100000.

haha looks like a nice stock to own tho specially with an increase of 44% in one day...diggity damn

Well, someone bought 100,000 shares that day with no problem. In one go.

And the next day, someone bought 200,000 shares in one go.

So, tell me there's no insider trading here. LOL! Who has that kind of cash to put in one trade? Wow!

Not enough to matter. It was floating in this area before the news release. So, it really has done nothing IMO.

It was up at 0.50 not that long ago, before this new information, which is positive ... even came out. So, I was expecting a large jump. Not a couple pennies. You know, I wanted a dime or two.

Lets just say that once they tie that first big well in and then drill the 2nd and 3rd offsetting locations, Rolling has the potential to be sitting around $4 this time next year.

Of course, thats just my opinion ;)

I still haven't sold since I bought at $0.70.

I should have sold at $2.00, but I was greedy... haha

I guess I could hang on for while

Wow.

ARU is through the fricken' roof today.

I mean, if you had bought 50000 shares at 0.45 cents, you'd have made a cool *QUARTER MILLION DOLLARS* this afternoon.

Ofcourse, you'd have to add that to the *THREE HUNDRED FIFTY THOUSAND* you made yesterday.

Fuck me twice. That's insane.

Edit to fix AUR to ARU. LOL!

Here's a stock to look at:

OHS Capital Corp.

They are in the process of completing a major transaction with a smart card technology company.

Info and press releases can be found at www.sedar.com OR www.tsx.com

Trading symbol is OCC on the TSX-V.

I have a few friends that put me onto the company and it looks good.

Only trading at around $0.14 cents right now. Good chance to get in on the ground floor!!!!!

Thought this might apply to a lot of people on this thread that arent so experienced in short term trading

from this article on CNBC website

Throw no good money after bad
"Sunk costs" are expenses that have already been incurred and can't be recovered to any appreciable extent. "Sunk cost fallacy" means an irrational belief that a further investment of time, money or effort will somehow resurrect the value that's already disappeared.Get the latest from Liz Pulliam Weston. A classic example is the investor whose stock has plunged because the prospects of the company have worsened. The investor wouldn't buy the same stock today, yet continues to hang on to the shares rather than sell them and take the loss. The investor may offer the excuse that he or she wants to at least "break even" before selling, but of course the stock market doesn't care about the investor getting the money back, and all the wishing in the world won't bring the stock price back up.

By hanging on to the shares, the investor is giving up the opportunity to invest elsewhere at a profit -- an opportunity cost.

ive seen the same thing happen back in 2000 when the market took a major shit. Stock that were at $300/share fell to $30. People were like "wow this is a great buy"... 2 months later that same stock is at 10 cents.

Just be careful what youre doing. Short term trading is really just like gambling because fundamentals mean nothing when youre talking about a 1 day - 1 week time frame. It's usually profitable when the market is on a hot streak and overvalued stocks are going up and up. They're terrible investments fundamentally, but could be great in the short term

Some of you investing in a stock like PLE or SPX while its dropping and the market is dropping need to really be careful. I hope everyone makes out and gets rich, but just take care cause in all reality, there is no reason PLE wont go back to the 15 cent level or less.

Its the, "trying to catch a falling knife" syndrome. It's also why dollar cost averaging and buying more of a loosing stock in the short term is a horrible idea.

at this rate i would defintly wait until Next week before loading up on PLE. I can see PLE going down to ~ 0.25 or less by Monday unless they haev some amazing NR. But by the look of things good NR means nothing as everyone's pretty nervous about the 40 million shares that are going to be released on Monday.
