SilverRex

surprised at the strength despite being over bought the start of the morning. looks like the dollar index is trying to head to fill the gap and possibly put in a larger correction.

it would make a bit more sense as the DOW after breaking down its neck line is near retesting that point.

I will put oil max pain at 69, meaning above this may give us some trouble ahead, other wise chart still remains bearish in my books until ther wise.

you can clearly draw the oil rally from 65.5 tp 67.70 about as a A, a B dropped to close to 66 this morning, then we are in the final leg for a bit higher C some where between 67-69.

time to hold on tight again boys ;)

I'm gonna set a tight stop on HOD I think...seems to be tanking.

SilverRex
08-18-2009, 10:18 AM
just based on price projection the rally off 65.24 to 67.80 is about 2.56

so based on that, then if we throw 2.56 on from the 66.11 low of this morning that will give us 68.67 (so far we hit 68.60)

let see if that is how its playing out

SilverRex
08-18-2009, 10:23 AM
remember when hod first got to about 11.70s and dropped back down below 11. Well now that we broke above that level, I am expecting that to provide support.

SilverRex

from 10.61 to 12.80, the drop to 11.70 is a 50% retracement.

61% fibo is at 11.44

if this is the run towards 16-20 or more as I believe. then price will no doubt turn around pretty dam quickly here. otherwise next level is 11.44 and I would say this is the last and if taken out will put the low at 10.61 questionable

dam, GS finally broke down from a up trend line pushing it higher and higher. hopefully this is the signal that the top is in for today.

Well...bought HOD: 250 @ 12.16 and then another 200 @ 11.73, so I'm averaging 11.97. I'm also out of $$ to go lower, so hopefully you're on the ball again, SR! I may be coming out to Cow Town in a month or two so if it goes up as high as you're saying I'll have to buy you lunch...

ok let see here, imo the current 200 EMA and 50% fibo is holding price down. I think worse case scenario is 70 oil, anything higher I would have to say something else is up we may need to hold off on the oil shorts.

similar to oil when it made an abc correction around 71, I think we are at the last stages of completing the C with stoch very over bought, I cant wait till it resumes down ward.

the only thing I worry is that both gold/silver and euro is trying to form a similar corrective pattern however they all could not break higher then the london open, and thus has me concern if gold and euro has a higher high coming in which would in turn push oil higher.

this expected correction sequence is in fact more than what I bargin for. but I just have to stick to my own analysis. with GS chart pointing down, dow is below its broken neckline, I just couldnt see why it the bottom would be in.

over all the critical resistance for oil at 73.35 top as well as euro's 4330 and dollar's 78.12 bottom needs to continue to hold for bullish out look on the dollar.

but short term unless oil quickly breaks down below 68. it will continue to test our patients.

HNU on the other hand doesn't look to good, other then the MACD, HNU has made a new low but the MACD hasn't, could be some kinda divergence maybe, what you think SR?

well 50% fibo at 69.12, so closing below this would be a great start.

I dont think it matters if it closes above or below 69, I may get rid of half of my position if it breaks above 70 front month And since 70+ oil will start to be very shaky, but I will still need a day or two to see what it wants to do.

fortunately, all other charts like oil, euro are still very weak. Im not going to change my view yet and I still believe this rally is corrective.

if you look at gold, euro and silver none of them even broke higher than the high it set during london open about 11 hours ago. so clearly oil is the funny one here.

Natural Gas is not yet a decent short term investment.
Storage levels are high, and we haven't yet seen a significant production decline from US shale plays due to decresed drilling.
Check back this winter at the earliest.

That being said, there are some excellent long term prospects among the Natural Gas producers. But I'd better save that talk for the long term investments thread.

This is kind of what im thinking. Green being the best case scenario. It's funny because NG has been trading in this perfect $1.40 channel from the highs - Just on a different trend line.
http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj259/broken_legs/gas_081809.jpg

The thing i don't like about gas, was that it sold off while oil and broader market were still gaining.

Fundamentally its a horrible thing to be in right now. blah blah blah - But so is oil and look at oil.

T.Boone Pickens fund has sold off all its oil field service stocks and purchased gas producers. The future looks bright, just not sure the future will be anytime soon.

Eventually......but with the following months contracts so much higher HNU could end up lower and lower with somewhat higher NG before it heads back up, eventually. If the september contract moves up to the October contract before September expires it will help- but if October moves down closer to September, then November moves down to meet October look out!

So it looks we will might get a nice pop at 8:30MST today....fk what that does to HOD is anybody's guess. Last 2 weeks markets have shrugged off inventory surplus's.

Markets have to decide between China news and drop in their markets vs a unexpected draw in inventories.

Oil Price Recovers As API Said Crude Inventory Had Huge Drop
ONG Focus - Insights
Written by Oil N' Gold | Wed Aug 19 09 01:26 ET
WTI crude oil rebounded sharply to as high as 70.29 Tuesday as API reported unexpected draw in crude inventory last week. The benchmark contract finished the day at 69.19, adding +3.7% during the day. Both RBOB gasoline and heating oil also surged, by +2.7% and +2.1%, to 2 and 1.87, respectively. However, natural gas continued to sink deeper and was down -2.1% yesterday.

The industry-sponsored API reported crude inventory dropped an impressive -6.13 mmb, compared with consensus of a +1.19 mmb gain, to 342.4 mmb in the week ended August 14. The draw was driven decline in imports as well as increase in refinery runs. However, Cushing stocks rose +0.795 mmb in the week.

Thanks to: reduced lending in China and a 5% drop in the stock market over there...

Oil prices are pivoting around $69/BBL on nothing more than sentient on global stock markets right now. The Germans were looking good, oil shot over $70 last night, and then the rest of Europe wasn't looking too hot, and the Chinese stock market took a beating on reduced lending, so oil falls back down to the mid-68s.

SR, it would almost be a good idea to take a look at the technicals of the major indexes (Dow, TSX, Shanghai, European markets, etc) because it seems like oil will be following their cue for the next couple of days.

I've also read on two separate articles that technical analysis calls for $64 and $60 oil... but oil seems to want to track stocks and sentiment at the moment.

Perhaps if you were in this thread over the past 12 months to watch a number of people lose quite a bit of money playing HOD/HOU like a roulette wheel you would understand the expression "the force" that max_boost started using a while back. Over the long term oil is going up there is really no question about that. Volatility has also dropped quite a bit and most price swings really only last 2-3 days tops. So fighting "the force" is basically being bearish on oil for anything more than $5 over the course of 2-3 days. In the end the HOD crowd is working against an oil price destined to go up.

While it is great to look at past prices and calculate the aggregate price changes in oil the fact of the matter is that more often than not prices are being chased only after the price of oil has moved dramatically. Just watch how many people are buying HOU/HOD $1-2 after it has already moved.

If you feel that you can perfectly time the way oil moves. More power to you. However the vast majority cannot and end up losing money or barely breaking even in the long run.

sorry Im going to be out in 30 mins, but I will post a quick chart at home.

looking at the dollar, it seems the alt count scenario is forming as dollar indeed wanted to trace down further to fill the gap. now that it has, I Expect dollar to crack the small down trend line to confirm and start making an aggressive assult above 80.

the 78.12 remains to be critical support in order to remain dollar bullish. I will start to worry if the dollar takes out the up trend line in blue other wise next move should be up

http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk118/genmaster/dollar081909-1.jpg

its unfortunate oil retraced so much, thank fully on the chart, oct contract price has been rolled over as well so now for get about looking at the front month oil technically we should be focusing on oct's oil which as bounced off 71.54 and is trading below it. This down trend line needs to hold otherwise it could lift oil furhter higher.

hadnt we seen this before? remember oil dropped a lot then made a huge advance and topped out slightly at 73.35 only to drop 15 dollars?

lets hope for a similar scenario. while oil charts remains a bit confused after yesterday / overnight rise, but until 73.35 is taking out. I still expect oil to drop.

now gold is hanging at around 930s, but silver continues to push lower. so either gold wants to rally because this level is too important to break or its only a matter of time until gold will collasp as well. Remember I said silver chart looks very weak? and indeed it did headed lower. while the next major support for silver is at around 12.80-90, start thinking about taking some profit off the table and let the rest ride further to about 11.50s because a turn date this week could still allow the market to make one final push to a higher high. if gold/silver and oil does not drop big this week, then expect a major rally unfolding next week going into early september.

the real fun begins when the dollar heads for a wave III advance. currently if it all plays out, its only in a sub wave III of I.

i asked my gas trader friend this very question yesterday. he said that aug/sept are historically the worst months anyways... winter should bring it up some, but he suspects that production cuts are going to have to happen before any significant rise. then he said some tech-talk about moving GJ's and parking gas that i didn't get.

Rig utilization For the first half of 2009 was down 37% for onshore North America. That results in about 15,000 fewer wells drilled this year.
Oil and Gas Journal - Article (http://www.ogj.com/index/article-display/2389952156/s-articles/s-oil-gas-journal/s-volume-107/s-Issue_27/s-General_Interest/s-special-report__modest.html)
Given the cycle time for those wells to come on will be 3-12 months, you can expect the production decline to come in the latter half of the winter. Add in the fact that storage is pretty much 100% full, and that will buffer prices for an additional couple months.
Unless we see some really cold weather in the states early this winter to draw down storage levels, look for Gas prices to stay persistently low.

Wow HOD, I hate you almost as much as I hate HNU right now, but I'd rather not take a loss so I'll hold out hoping that Oil will still have a drop this week or next.

Supplies are a little less bloated in the Aug. 14 week. Stocks of crude fell 8.4 million barrels to 343.6 million with stocks of gasoline down 2.1 million and distillates down 0.7 million. Oil prices shot nearly $1 higher in instant reaction to the results. Nevertheless, stocks are still swollen and demand is still surprisingly weak.

Well, fuck.

Looks like I'll be holding HOD for a week or so while getting eaten away by fees. This is the one time I don't set a tight stop to my initial buy, and it's is the same day I'm in meetings and a field trip all day and lose over $1,000... FML.

There's no reason for it to move NG prices. I don't think Bermuda is much of a NG producer at the moment.

SilverRex on today's oil.

Keep in mind it was posted prior to the inventory report.

its unfortunate oil retraced so much, thank fully on the chart, oct contract price has been rolled over as well so now for get about looking at the front month oil technically we should be focusing on oct's oil which as bounced off 71.54 and is trading below it.

Dinan

Anyone have any recent technical analysis on oil (post 8:30AM inv report)?

October is sitting at $73.30... I don't know whether to take another position in HOD right now or to wait it out and see if it'll dip back to the mid/high-60s.

This is the first and last time I buy a stock without setting a stop at a $200 loss, which has worked really well for me up to this point.

When the upwards trend line breaks - Buy HOD

Until then, you should only be shorting to the trend line and covering.

same with the resistance around 71ish

Buy at the trend line, sell at resistance.
