earlier today, PLE hit the 52-week high of $0.68  and, from another forum:
A BID order for 132,000 From BMO took out the ASK at 10:57. THats a $90,000 transaction. One has got to think that it has to be institutional.

Finally started to show signs of life over the last week with the potential that Hurricane Chris might hit the Gulf Coast and with winter right around the corner (I know, it's only Aug) - consumption of gas always goes up in Q4 (assuming we don't have a really warm winter). I'll be loading up on natural gas stocks in the short term since n.gas is big time under valued (rule of thumb is ~ 1/7 of crude - which it is clearly not at this point).
Same story w/ NQL - only they provide the tools to get gas and crude out of the ground. If natural gas prices pick up like I expect in Q4, we'll see more put into n.gas drilling activity from companies like VRO and therefore, more purchases / rentals from NQL.
Both are good picks and don't seem to be well covered by institutional investors at this point (hence the low volume)...which is a good thing for you and me.
Excellent explaination and insight... What are some Natural Gas companies that someone would potentionally look into?

A couple of things:
1) a lot has changed since I originally posted this, Hurricane Chris did not gain any strength over the water and turned into little more than a windy day for some folks in the caribbean. So, if you choose to invest in n.gas stocks, understand that your going to be investing in something that is volatile as shit and basically trying to predict weather (eg: hurricane or heat wave).
2) Everyone needs to do their own research and suit their own investment style. I play n.gas by investing in 1 market leader (Encana) and if i'm really confident, i'll pick up some small / medium caps to give me that extra boost (Vero, Provident).
3) I believe that their is at least one more good pull back in crude and n.gas to come. Although, the national hurricane center has downgraded the number of hurricanes this year from 12 to 7 (hurricane season ends Nov 30) - which may also keep production of crude and n.gas going (and therefore, prices from going significantly higher). I believe the odds of at least 1 big ass hurricane that will hit the gulf coast by Nov 30 is pretty good.
So, if you can get an Encana for mid $50-sub $60, I would start accumulating position and since that stock is liquid as shit, you can dump it quickly as well.
However, if you don't 100% believe in the n.gas story, you can alternatively play it through a large integrated (eg: shell, imperial, petro, etc) so you get support from high crude prices while n.gas prices are low OR you can play the drillers like Precision, Western Lakota, NQL, etc OR if your really ballsy, you can play foreign n.gas producers who are probably one of the lowest cost producers but have all sorts of political risks to deal with (but if the politics remain stable and n.gas prices catch up, that'll be a big boost to their earnings and therefore share price).
Unfortunately, question is a bit more complicated than it seems, should really look into what story you believe (if any) and how you want to play it. If your super conservative and can't lose any money and can only buy 1 stock, you might want to play somewhere else (like tech or financial services - both have been beaten up lately and likely some good buys IMO).

Just a thought on Natural Gas prices...
The oil sands projects are powered by Natural Gas. They burn ridiculous amounts of NG up there to cook out the oil. NG price is one of the big factors in whether or not oil sands production will be profitable.
Companies like Suncor are attempting to hedge the price of gas by developing more NG wells to raise the supply and thus reduce the cost. This could potentially drive the price down... But on the other hand if oil keeps going up they might be able to afford a little extra and no one will care. But on the other other hand, all of teh heavy machinery that moves the earth up there runs on DIESEL so when the price of OIL goes up so does the price of Diesel and thus the cost to produce a barrel of oil.
So maybe NG prices will stay where they are due to some manipulation by the big OG companies trying to get cheaper oil outta the ground up north...
Si_FlyGuy
08-12-2006, 11:07 AM
Your argument is true, except that all of the NG costs to cook the sands are flowed thru to the purchasers. From a company perspective, they are indifferent to the costs as long as their supply of NG is not excessive in relation to the market.
I might be wrong, but I believe the Suncor wells you are referring to serve to supply areas where NG is not readily available rather than to suppress NG prices in the consumer market.
Good post though.

Absolutely nothing. But GOLD ultimately.
That's why the price is complete and total bullshit. This stock should be worth about $0.15, if that.
That's reality.
Imagine a place where there is no roads, no nothing. Just desolate land. No water. Hell, no water source for miles. No drills, no drill targets for that matter. No nothing, empty.
AND THAT'S PLE!
Sure makes you wonder why the stock is as high as it is. Completely over-valued at the moment IMO, but I don't care, as I have shares...
But they are next to Aurelian Resources Inc (ARU) which had a big find, and all the preliminary stuff looks great. So there is potential for a big payoff.

How about NRN up to $1.21 this morning? Seems like they both have stuff in the labs and could possibly have had some leaks. Not sure why else they'd be on this nice runup without any news releases.

Oh, no, wait, they just lied about everything, I remember now. Hahah.
Reality is that it is the stock market, and anything can and will happen. But, for the sake of reality, PLE is nothing more than a desolate piece of land in the middle of nowhere that (hopefully) might have a whack of gold under it.
Either way, I have shares, so I am happy.
I've made about $9k off PLE so far, which is a good amount, but nothing like what I could have made had I held onto my original shares. Still, I find it hard to complain about it, yet still do. Hahah.

PLE has news releases coming in the next little while here so there is potential for movement up or down.
1) Airials
2) Eqaudor Property...60 days is almost up.
3) Possibly additional sample results.
4) Should have drill targets soon
GML also just had a good release on their drill results so this is also indicative of the potential in the area.
Any word on rol-a's YE results or upcoming news....?? stock is kinda idling lately and I'm wondering whether or not to put it into ASX as they have just finished drilling their cold lake property with drill results coming.

If you plan to save the money for a while always but it in stocks. They outpreform EVERY assest class including real estate, gold, bonds, and whatever other type of investment you can think over any 20 year period since people started trading stocks.
You already know everything you need to know to pick stocks. You could get into all that complicated crap but you probably have better things to do. The easiest way to pick a good stock is to buy the stock that makes the products that everyone is buying. Talk to teens, they usually find a hot product or store before anyone else and if you buy the stock of the company (if they are publicly traded) when you're sure the trend will last longer then 6 months and I you can expect to make some nice change. Use finance.yahoo.com, look up aeos(american eagle) and anf(abercombie and fitch). Before you look up their charts, think when did these store become popular and when was the first time you heard these brands from a friend od in a movie or on tv. Look up the charts and look at the date you came up and you can see for yourself how much money you could have made.
Of course their are major dips, that's the nature of stocks, no worries if you don't need the cash for a while, those dips are when you buy more and watch them go up again.
Pay attention, knowing when to sell is harder. You will get greedy and not want to sell. The second you start noticing people changing or find yourself not liking the products the company is making start questioning. If you find people are getting laid off, people are avoid the store, their a new trend that the company isn't adapting too, then it time to SELL SELL SELL. Example: who shops at the GAP anymore?
It doesn't just have to be popular brands you buy. If you love cars you know yourself who makes the best shit and often you know before it becomes really big.
It all comes down to; do I like it and do buy it's products? Yes. BUY Do I still like? NO. SELL. Easy.
One thing: keep an eye on P/E. This is price of stock times the number of stocks divided by earnings. This number tells you how expensive the stock is. If this number is high say above 30 be careful, it a sign the stock is overvalued but this number is relative to different industries. Tech stocks tend to have higher P/E while mature industires like banking stocks have lower P/E. It all depends how much other people expect the stock to grow.
I'm expecting a bubble in the alternative energy stocks. Not now but soon. It won't be nearly as crazy as the internet bubble but keep an eye out.

Maybe some of you experienced traders can answer this for me:
As I understand it, when you put in an order it is placed in a line, Orders are filled in the order they were placed... So If I am late putting in an order and there are 100 other orders already in they will get filled first and I could miss out.
Now my question is --> Say I place an order... say right now for where I think a stock price will be in a few days so I will be close to the front of the line on that day, if I change the order (IE the price or amount of shares) will the order lose its place in line, or will I still be at the front of the bus?
I am using TD Waterhouse and I have changed orders several times but noted that the Ref. No. on the order remains the same after its been changed.
Thanks for your advices!

orders are placed by price and then by "who placed it first". So if multiple people are putting down a sell for 1.00, then whomever put in the order first.. gets queued first. If you go 0.99, then you'll be placed ahead of the 1.00 people.
If you change your price.. it'll get placed in the appropriate order. It doesn't matter if you placed your order 1 year ago or 1min. ago.
in regards to the ref. no. It doesn't matter.. it just lets TD reference the order.

i missed the PLE boat, and I dont understand why it has gone up so quiet in such a short period of time w/ no news!!
but I think as long as they havent start drilling yet it is stil not too late! I will let it cool down a bit before jumping in

I bailed on SPX this morning. Fuck that stock. Selling at a loss. Oh well. Not as bad as 0.20 but hey, at least it's gone.
I wouldn't wait on PLE.
It was only a week and half ago this was sitting in the fifties.
If you think it's gonna go back down that low, you're crazy. It's only gonna drop that low after they announce drilling results that are shitty. And that is months away, and ofcourse, the results might be wonderful news.
I think if you're in it, you just stay and if you're not, buy in as fast as you can and WAIT patiently. ;) [Says the most impatient SOB in the world.]

Anything else coming up on anyones radar right now? I bought into CDV.... COM DEV INTL LTD... So far so good. I bought in at $4.95 and its at $5.48. Though not huge gains like PLE but a good company non the less.
Heres a snip of the last news release.
COM DEV International Ltd. (TSX:CDV - News) today announced it has been awarded an Authorization to Proceed (ATP) valued at US $5.2 million (approximately CDN $5.9 million) to commence the design and manufacture of equipment for a European military communications satellite program. COM DEV expects the ATP to lead to a full contract valued at US $18.0 million (approximately CDN $20.5 million), with work carried out over the next 17 months at the Company's facilities in Cambridge, Ontario, and Aylesbury, UK.
