There are also studies on how to detect earnings management and what types of companies it certain cituations are more prone to use certain accruals in financial reporting. Basically it boils down to the fact that financial reporting is very discretionary and many tactics can be used to make things look great (delaying expenses and accruals, speeding up revenue recognition) or terrible (the big bath theory), depending on what the company is trying to acheive.
That is 100% true. I've assisted the securities commissions in investigating a very similar situation of crafty financials. Problem is that financial reporting is based on such loose interpretation of the rules (which themselves aren't even all that concerete at times). In the fear of losing clients, even auditors are often pressured to look past grey areas in the FS. These days, it's hard to trust a set of books sometimes.

From what I was reading the price of Oil is making a big impact on the TSX. This is a question for all the veterans. What else can cause certian months to do better or worse then others? as of now the Price of oil is hitting the hardest.

I'm with you on that one.. I took my profits at 1.00, but with the NR coming up I'm going to buy more next week.. although I don't think I'd buy as much as I did when I got in at 30ish cents.

holy smokers ple got smoked
i knew i shouldve sold yesterday but i had a feeling today was going to be a good day considering everything went down harshly for 2 days.
ohh well time to load up on some more
just started checkin out the real estate, money, finances forum today...i wish i read them in january...to the dude who gave the tip about plexmar when it was .15 .....you were right, big time.
Anyways i bought 4000 shares @ .49 and have been holding on to it since.
I was tempted to sell it at 1.20 and rebuy again after the drop, but I was afraid that with my luck, it would jump to $3.00 overnight (see ARU.V). Does anyone on this board have any shares in PLE? Do u plan on buying more this coming monday? Its been dropping steadily since the drop in the price of gold lately..seems like a good time to buy. Im in it for the long run baby....all or nothing, lets hope it mirrors ARU and hits $26.00 and we all become, very very rich.
why isn't this in the good investment thread?

I bought some after the drop "today" and im planning to buy more if it drop even more. But worry about it jumping to $3 overnight, ARU.v was drilling when that happened, and I think PLE doesnt even have offical drilling target yet, still lots of time to jump in/out imo.

Considering the # of outstanding shares that PLE has vs. ARU, all things equal, I would not expect the share price to go any higher than $10....I would say $5-$7 is a good range if the results are anyywhere near as good.
And SH are waiting for the assessment of geological airial and ground surveys, which will then lead to drill targets, which will lead to drilling (assuming that a drill rig has been secured), then assays, then reporting drill results....they are a long way off from being where ARU is. End of november at the earliest I am predicting for preliminary drill results.

IS ANYBODY HERE FOLLOWING CANDAX?
CAX.TO
I work in oil and gas and I really liked their story earlier this year - They drilled a huge gas target and had to shut in the well ... BECAUSE THEY TOOK A HUGE KICK FROM A HIGH PRESSURE GAS RESERVOIR.. Then the reservoir got fooked up by the drilling mud (totally normal considering the situation), then there were delays etc.. etc.. I bought in @ 0.76 when the bad news came out the well wasn't flowing cause of the drilling mud but sold off after they hit 90 cents. Anyhoo Its darned cheap right now @ 0.62 and I'm thinking of getting back in.
anyone else thinking the same?

...
And then I can buy it back even cheaper.
If you've watched PLE closely for the last 6 months, it's never done what it did this morning before. That is, to open at like 10+ cents below its previous close. That's strange.
It has opened a few pennies above, etc, but nothing like this before. Makes you wonder WTF is going on...

Just the price of gold went through the floor and along with it all mineral and mining stocks..
BAA is the one i'm watching it has a lot of potential for the land that it owns in Congo and some very strong financial backing. If things settle down in Africa could be a very profitable company.

I'm wondering about PLE. It's down to just over 80 cents, and I'm thinging of entering the fray. I think there were a lot of profit takers once it hit over $1, so I'm weary now.
Then again, I don't have much background on the company or the stock... so I'm just speculating away :dunno:

Ok... so here are my "watches" for the coming 4 months. Take these with a grain of salt though.
I'm watching GNY, IMX, SBB, and GCE.
I think IMX will rebound based merely on good earnings, and aquisition. GNY just has good fundamentals once NG demand increases it will hit $7 by December. SBB and GCE are more based on .... well.... a hunch :dunno:

I'm looking at BIM and AUD. Probably goign to wait and see what the market does over the next week though.
I think they're both longer-term gainers but there's no point in buying while the market is bearish (then again, BIM went up ~8% yesterday when everything else was dropping!)

No, this won't be a short term gainer. There might be blips up as samples are tested, negotiation terms are reached with the Inuit, financing is secured etc. but this is definitely more of a long-term buy. I think of this as a 15 year type stock. There is risk associated with it as there are a lot of things that could potentially hold this mine back....but with steel prices that should remain high as the East develops and such a great reserve, I think it will go ahead eventually. I just feel it's still early enough to get in for the long-term and make substantial gains.

CALGARY, Sept. 14 /CNW/ - Rolling Thunder Exploration Ltd. ("Rolling Thunder" or the "Corporation") (TSX-V: ROL.A, ROL.B; OTO: RTHXF) announces that the Corporation's production facility at Teepee Creek is now operational and producing at full capacity of 1000 barrels of 37* API oil per day. Conversion Solutions Issues Statement on TD Ameritrade
Wednesday September 13, 7:38 pm ET
KENNESAW, Ga., Sept. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The following statement is being issued by Rufus Paul Harris, Chief Executive Officer of Conversion Solutions Holdings Corp (OTC Bulletin Board: CSHD - News), a Delaware Corporation.
Depending on who you speak to, the events of the last thirty days could be the beginning of the end for a trading dynasty. The "Short" selling of Conversion Solutions Holdings Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: CSHD - News) company stock by a once loved and respected trading house may have sealed that company's fate as it is now perceived to specialize in "Shorting" OTC Bulletin Board stocks.
Short selling of OTCBB stock is legal, and is used by some companies to create liquidity where there is none. Why would a stock be stagnating, you may ask? In some instances anticipation of an upcoming 10K or a price reset might cause a company's share holders to sit tight and hold for a time. Companies that participate in the practice of "Short" selling either: buy their positions out of the market or go bankrupt.
Conversion Solutions Holdings Inc. has filed 8K documentation, announcing nearly 2.6 billion dollars in assets and yet TD Ameritrade (and their subsidiaries) continue to sell shares they don't own, or have the ability to borrow. TD Ameritrade responds not by buying the stock out of the market, to cover their "Shorts," but by refusing their customers their legitimate right to buy more OTC Bulletin Board: CSHD stock. Some Conversion Solutions Holdings Inc. supporters have shared their thoughts and feelings on the forum http://www.hotstockmarket.com, many of whom vow to press litigation against TD Ameritrade for not allowing them to purchase more CSHD stock. This stock has been on regulation SHO for 25 consecutive days and it has been confirmed that it has been "Shorted" by an objective "Third Party." To peruse this information please visit http://www.buyins.net, they assert, "the 'Shorting' is over...16,000,000 shares with others estimating the 'Shorting' to be as high as 60,000,000."
Currently, the Company has 62,000,000 shares outstanding, and simple calculations would assess a current book value for this company, as of today, at approximately $41.93 per share. Then the sum, when multiplied by a minimum of 16,000,000 shares shorted, comes to minimum of $670,880,000. A market analyst concludes this stock may be conservatively valuated at 2x its book value ($1,341,760,000) or put another way, about 4 times greater than TD Ameritrade's last year's net profit.
Some of TD Ameritrade's clients are already requesting their stock certificates in fear that TD Ameritrade may go under. They are moving their shares to other trading houses that they believe to be less likely to short this stock.
As Conversion Solutions Holdings Inc. nears its 10K due date (September 30, 2006) its share holders should look positively on the actions of their Chairman and his Board and their corporate wide confidence should be reflected and rewarded by ever increasing share values. Having said that and looking back on the events of the last thirty days I can say with certainty that it should be an interesting, but profitable ride for any person who wants to get on board to make the trip by supporting their company for the long haul.
For additional information concerning "Short Selling," please read "Darkside of the Looking Glass." by Dr. Patrick Byrne http://www.businessjive.com/nss/darkside.html

"We are extremely pleased and amazed at the high grade gold content of these samples taken from the first reconnaissance trip to the area. It definitely confirms the high potential of this huge land package located near Aurelian's Fruta del Norte gold discovery. Plexmar will start an aggressive exploration program as soon as the final deal is signed with the mining rights owner." Says Guy Bedard, president.
All samples are analyzed by ALS Chemex in Lima. Guy Bedard, president, acted as the QP for the preparation of this news release.

10 Day Moving Average.
GCE is the one that I'm waiting on until their earnings for this quarter come out. Should be coming out in the next little while.

What do you mean that it is getting held up by the 10-day MA? Are you saying that because the stock is trading under the 10-day MA? Are you talking about the SMA or EMA?

So, PLE gonna be in the teens where it should be in a week or two? Guesses on how long before it completely tanks??
I think down to 60's tomorrow.
And it's gonna get worse. Back to where it belongs I guess. :poosie:

I dont see it going down to much. Especially with the nr's lately. Though the gold market isnt helping, most of my gold mining stocks are being effected.

I dunno, when I found out that all the owners of PLE sold literally millions of shares when it spiked recently...
That's just...well...NOT RIGHT!
I have thought about this a lot since I heard - and I can not come up with a single, solitary reason, as to WHY the directors of the project would sell their shares so cheaply, if they knew they were sitting on a big bucks per share scenario.
Bottom line - they know best - or should, and selling off a million shares in one day between them makes no sense whatsoever if there was a big find staring them in the face.
The last news release was absolute BS, information of no significance whatsoever. Hey, we took a walk-about, picked up some rocks, and THERE'S GOLD IN IT! That's a big nothing NR IMO. Where are the results of the survey which should have already been done? No drill targets, no drill, no water, no electricity, no buildings, no people or staff, no nothing. PLE scares the hell out of me and always has. That stock should still be a penny stock at about $.05 IMO.
Didn't see anywhere that they sold all their shares in their own company. Hmmm, something fishy going on IMO. But, I guess it's anybody's guess. It could shoot up tomorrow to over $1 again. But, well, I doubt it. I expect a downward trend as more people start to find out the directors firesaled what should have been extremely valuable shares...

I'm guessing it won't go much lower than ~$0.75. There appears to be support there.
